This is my so mid u'ir here at llie College nf Eastern I 'uh and I have to say that overall I've luJ a I’iciiv good experience The people ire great I he classes arc fun and the atmosphere is kicked back But if there has been one thorn in my side it has been the housing office I live in Builcnshaw Hall and recently there was an incident that occurred there that inspired me to v me a letter to the editor About a week ago I returned to my room after dinner got over and found a note that was Iclt inside my room 'flic twHc was from k:i-ikcclc the hall Burtensliiw nJ fucker hll for director I to lined informing me that id nv live suite $10 dollars ilni m a trash can males for the i stale that this froniitiysuileil' was (lie second iiit tins had happened and that tin ccond mlradion was the cause of the line As soon as I QHSQTII&G 1GH volunteer aMgnrasEflgiBEiif services comprises several dif- ferent de- ntear partments ” The most important thing about my job is that I am to here serve and support the college faculty because without them I would Kathy Painter1 a job is to help you And one nothaveajob am also here to help the students college experience be the best it can be” The main point of the job is Finding jobs for the students so they can have enough money to complete their college education Cooperative education is another part of her job This area helps students in their career exploration It is a lot like internship The student has to he involved and directed in the work that they arc majoring in and have a job in same area If they ber they can receive credit for the work they do Co-o- p Ed helps the college to keep close ties with the community Another part of the job is helping people discover who they are and “who they want to be when they grow up” Free testing is dime at the testing center to help narrow the vast amount of choices that can be made in the career field The Sun Center is also under Kathy's job tide “The Sun Center is really the love unshed reading the letter I shook my liead in absolute disbelief This was without a doubt (lie most preposterous thing that I had ever heard of I mean never ever see again of an area do lend to produce a significant amount of trash over a short periud of time you know But all ol this doesn't really matter since it is a rarity that any garbage can in Builcnshaw iseverempty and it wouldn't matter where it lay ovcrllowing with trash lXsiite of all of these nagging questions the real humdinger is this if you can notice garbage cans silting in suites wiiere they supposedly don't belong how come you people refuse to notice the disparities that exist over there? It is absolutely pitiful There arc suites that have their shower leak every time it turns on and it has leaked so much water for so long that the carpet is moldy and smells actually charging people $10 to move a trash can 20 feet Irnin my suite into the main lounge is absurd Especially considering the devastating fact tliat I never receiveu any fid notice saying that a trash can had been found in my suite and was then removed by Kacic llien if that isn't cray enough for yuu all six people who live in my suite were charged $10 dollars for (lie removal of the trash can from the suite All in all the housing office netted $fiO for removing that trash can That is quite a nice little profit for doing absolutely qij work The reasoning behind charging everyone $ 10 was that Kacic didn't know who pul the Hash can there What docs some secret conspiracy exist to cover (lie scandalous act of harboring an illegal trash can? Come on Maybe a heller solution would be to leave a note asking us to take (lie trash can out Tliat way its relumed to its right lull place and no one is lined Or maybe ask us wlio Hit the Hash can there and deal with that problem on thit basis Belter yet how about you put a trash can in (lie suites using llie deposits (hat we ull gave you al llie beginning ol llie year which we know that no matter what n inwBMMiP m ‘4as ednesda receive permission from a faculty mem- I hivjulp sa© Being the director of career and support the college faculty because without them I would not have a job I am also to help the students college experience be the best it can be ” Letter to the Editor - cfli the upcoming future The most important thing about my job is that I am to serve and I fcV1- iteaaaaflBfl Kate and is expecting two “ a3!5l& SWGEE more grandchildren in one brother and three sisters she had a wonderful childhood While attending Cedar High she worked at Zion’s National Park in the summer and Zion’s Floral in the winter After graduating she attended Southern Utah University where she received a bachelors in Elementary Education While teaching at Western Hills Elementary School in Kearns she married Then she only substitute taught while she raised her son and two daughters Her family moved to Price and because of the short ige of housing tier family served as Jorm parents of Tucker Hall She unrUI part lime in r ! he around people quilt crochet garden study family history and “whatever is there she felt that Cedar City had a spark of service that every child born full-tim- happens we w ill Six people in that small of putrid mildew I low come you don't notice the leaky faucets that drain into llie fltxir and the cupboards rotting everything in its path? Not only that but not one sink that I used this year or last year ever had a nozzle on the faucet and IXxirx on sprayed water everywhere drawers and cupboards are broken and tom oil tlic hinges and remain unfixed Win si yet it isn't like these problems go uiiicMirted by llie students Since day one I have inlormcd my RA's and wrote that llieic weie things that were broken wlk'ii we git Iwic and need to be fixed Still nothing hapiviis Also these are of my life right now because of how strong service is at this time of year" The Angel Tree is one of the main 1 5nr£j 1 afOivni £ift projects going on at this time There are angels on this tree that students and community can take and written on the back of the angel a “child's wish" It is then their responsibility to deliver the item to the Sun Center This tree can be found in CEU's main building during the Christmas season 4sgnrriM &iCXJriQ3fo k© things that are obvious problems that anyone would notice when tliey were just passing by let alone he inspecting for cleanliness and order I low much easier is it lodo all the necessary paper work for fining some one than it is to report it to Joe? Not much but then again it is much nicer to be fining poor college students for lame infractions that it is to shell out iIk money to bring the place'whcre many students pay to I just don't live up to standards understand How can you justify in anv situation charging $60 to people who obviously were cleaning up after themselves Sixty dollars! Outrageous In the city of Price it costs a person who owns a home about eight or nine dollars to have (heir trash removed per month And they come once a week! Sixty dollars if solely spent on trash removal would last me about seven months That means a trash truck with its crew will drive to my house and then take it to the dump forme Sixty dollars! Insane (sure hope that money will be spent on something constructive like fulfilling tlic housing departments duties and obligations so that my conscience will rest easy and I won't lecl robbed blind by Zach Westerfield -- '(it ‘fj: k SJfflyti fffli idi fffcmzrj gtb ‘© ) "Tko racgle Stcxff Amber Saupun Editor Wes Christcnsen'Mike Pearce layout Editort Bernard Photography Editor Bryan Jill Edwards Features Editor Shanz Leonclli Sports Editor Steven Odendahl Online Manager Randy Chandler Proof Reading Editor Photographer!
