' ' by Edith Rerdan any of the pieces contact Jim Young curator of the Gallery East Staff writer The Gallery East has of Easy lo ' Utah ihc opponumly Ihcir lalcM arclmaU a ?hbr U --- phyctarcoaIsoiU aidpoScry Tli lalcnl brought Over 125 pieces of art work are on display In CEU's Gallery East The work Includes a representation of many forms of art Including photograpy by Mike Oliver Bernle Shampel and Tammy Most of the pieces arc on sale including some that are tabled "not for sale” in the 1988 89 Student Art Show Guide available at the entrance to the gallery If you wish to purchase it out in this is incredible Twenty slu-denis have brought out their best 12S pieces of an May show 1S and will nm until June 2 ijMows'w'WV i' of art arc olcondi Go and lake a look at the hard work for sale at the Gallery East on the CEU campus located in the Main Building Campbell Valedictorian and salutatorian named The College of Eastern Utah has named a Salt Lake man to deliver the valedictory address and a 198S Emery High School graduate as salutatorian for the College's commencement exercises on June 9 Dan Swink a 1971 graduate of Salt Lake City's South High School was selected Valedictorian of the CEU Class of 1989 A Vietnam era veteran of the US Army Swink returned to college in 1987 upon the encouragement of his wife and a Utah State Rehabilitation counselor In addition to serving an LDS mission in Northern Ireland and Scotland he has worked as a carpenter's apprentice on an assembly line in a convenience store and for the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad After graduating from CEU with a 3994 grade point average Swink intends to continue his education as a Psychology major at the University of Utah His ultimate goal is to cam a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the U near-perfe- ct Brett Larsen an active member of CEU's atre choir and dance programs will deliver the salutatory address to his classmates at the ceremonies A native of Castle Dale Larsen entered the College of Eastern Utah in September 198S and completed a misyear of his education before serving an LDS sion Returning in 1988 he continued his studies as a theatre major the- After spending the summer at work in the Jackson Hole Wyoming area Larsen will enter Brigham Young University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in theatre which he says is a vital part of his life He also intends to pursue a masters degree and eventually a doctorate in Business Administration In addition to the two students the CEU graduates will also hear from Dr Charles S Peterson a former dean of instruction at CEU and the cofounding editor of the prestigious "Western Histori- cal Quarterly” Student wins state competition Annette Lcturgcz a Carbon High School senior who is in her fourth quarter of cosmetology at the College of Eastern Utah captured first-plahonors at the Trade Technical and Industrial Vocational Excellence Award competition sponsored by the Utah State Board for Vocational Education The competition was held in Sail Lake City on May 5 The purpose of the competition is lo evaluate the abilities of vocational students from throughout the state Each contestant must demonstrate and skill used explain an entry-levin the occupational area for their training The presentation of the skill must be accompanied ce el by a clear explanation of the topic through the use of examples experiments displays or practical operations Leturgcz who explained the techniques and skills she's acquired as a cosmetology student was selected to participate in the state competition after a strong finish in the preliminary rounds held last month at Utah Valley Community College In addition to the presentation Leturgcz was required to submit a resume and complete a personal interview with the competition judges In addition to a plaque Leturgcz will receive a full college scholarship at CEU and SlOOcash |
