Show LOCALISMS. COOL evenings now. ?? ?? ?? and somewhat fashionable. THE trees are commencing to assume their autumnal tints. REMEMBER the convention of delegates to-morrow night. OGDENITES and Salt Lakers will "??-ball" each other during conference week. PEACHES have been plentiful the past few days, ranging from $1.00 to $2.00 per bushel according to quality. A GREAT many of the crossings on the public streets require attention before the setting in of cold weather. THE Omaha Herald says, "Bishop Sharp and daughter arrived from Salt Lake last evening on a Utah Central special car. WE call the attention of the travelling public to the revised time table of the Utah Central railway published elsewhere. SPECIAL care has been taken to prevent any disturbance to-morrow evening at the representation of "Will and the Way" by the Logan Dramatic Club. "MUSIC hath charms" and the people of Cache Valley are awakening to the fact that more teachers are wanted to encourage the divine art. DRESS seasonable and do not forget to wear a warm wrap or overcoat when going out in the evening. Prevention is better than cure. THERE are numerous placed on the public streets that require gravel to raise them sufficiently high to prevent water lodging after a fall of rain. CONFERENCE tickets will be issued by the U. & N. from here to Salt Lake commencing on Wednesday next at same rates as on previous occasions. GENERAL Supt. R. Law and Division Superintendent W. B. Doddridge, of the U. P. Railway passed through here on the south-bound train on Wednesday. THOSE who wish, should avail themselves of the opportunity offered and see the romantic drama of "Will and the Way," to-morrow night, in Providence Theatre. IN our last issue, the name of L. R. Martineau should have appeared as having secured the 2d prize for red potatoes in the vegetable class, instead of L. A. Musemann. DR. D. B. Lamoreaux is slowly recovering his wonted health. It was a close call, and his friends feel gratified that he has been permitted to remain awhile longer here below. THE following are the Territorial postal changes for the week: Discontinued, Milton, Morgan county, Utah; post master appointed at Juab, Juab county, Utah; Alber L. Jackman, Sterling, San Pete county, Utah; John D. Peacock. WE learn that two ladies from Utah will join the innumerable throng of female suffragists who will meet in the latest "National" Convention in this city to-day-Omaha Herald. Yes, Mr. Herald, and they will be found well-chosen, capable delegates-a host in themselves- sent to represent their sisters before the world on this momentous question. A FEW days since while a threshing machine was being run by horse power on Washington street, a man attempted to ?? a wheel listing, loaded with a child's crib, past the horses which were working close up to the sidewalk. The consequence was a general stampede among the animals, some of them broke loose and got upon the sidewalk, where the crib was demolished. The man escaped with his wheel barrow unrecognized during the melee. ON Tueday night some scoundrels upset a barrell containing 50 or 60 gallons of the celebrated "Slate Rubber Roofing Paint" which had been left outside the Logan House, for the purpose of painting the roof. As the material is of a heavy nature, weighing over 800 pounds, it could scarcely have been turned over by one individual, it naturally occurs that more than one person was concerned in the destructive outrage. The owners Messrs. Lundberg and Garff, in another column, offer a reward of $50, for the discovery of the offenders. OUR attention was called on Tuesday afternoon to the heavenly appearance of the new temple, it was completely surrounded by a brilliant arc in the shape of a rainbow. The temple, from its prominently high position, having as a background the Wasatch mountains, seemed like an enchanted palace, enriched with a dazzling setting. The distance from the sides of the arch seemed equal, while the dark clouds overhanging the scene had a silver lining, all these effects combining to present a glorious and picturesque subject for the pencil of an artist. OUR merchants are beginning to comprehend the value of advertising, as is evident by our pages. It is the constant dropping of the water that wears away the stone. So it is with publishing your wares in the home paper it is money well spent, for advertising has become as much of a necessity as having a store in which to sell. Advertisers speak for themselves in our columns, and we humbly recommend them as worthy of patronage. Inspect their stocks and be convinced, they keep the best of goods, and the largest assortment for 40 or 50 miles around. |
