Show FIGHTING AGAINST GOD. Many professedly religious ministers and newspaper editors continually rave about "putting down the "Mormons." We would ask comparison of the spirit they exhibit and the teachings of several of the bishops of the Church of England, towards a rather irregular religious sect, called the Salvation Army. The bishop of Bedford conducted one of their meetings lately, and in his remarks said, we will have no jealousies, but go in "God's name and drag them (the sinners) out of the mire." The bishop of Oxford, preaching recently on the same subject, said, "the church dare not forbid these zealous men or oppose them, "lest it should be found to be fighting against God." The italics are ours and present the point we wish to place before all interested in persecuting others, acting without judgment, or first ascertaining whether they themselves are right and doing the work of their Creator. |
