killed and twenty wounded A pennsylvania freight ran into a lehigh valley gravel train there is no telegraph instrument at the scene of the accident and lars are unobtainable the construction train was unloading ties at tamand siding on the Pott sylvania branch when the fast pennsylvania freight dashed into the construction cars forty hungarians Hung arians were at work unloading ties six were killed and twenty six wounded A pennsylvania train was killed and twenty freight cars were wrecked it is feared that macy of the wounded who lad to hours before help came will die the names of but four of the dead have been ascertained as follows joseph lorenski alike caplicki ludwig pike and john devinki Le vinki the other dead went by numbers territorial governor reports washington oct 16 governor church of dakota in his annual report says there has been a gain in population in tho territory during the year of in a total population of the quantity of land newly filed on and purchased for settlement during the year is two and a wat million acres there is an awakened interest in all that pertains to education the governor the report of P E carpenter of the school of mines which states that the mining industry in the black hills is taking on new life As to the discovery of tin in the black hills the governor remarks that there is not to day a producing tin mine nor a pound of dakota tin in the markets the governor renews his recommendation that the jaw preventing aliens from acquiring extensive tracts of land be amended so that capitalists or money corporations can loan money in the territory on land and in case they become owners to be allowed a certain time in which to dispose of il in conclusion he again urges that dakota bo admitted as a state into the union NEW thousand holdings the greater portion of these claimed grants are but illy defined as to exterior boundaries and in the increasing pressure of settlement the unoccupied portions are liable to be settled upon and endless and serious friction ensue which will become more serious from year to ye arso long as legislation for settlement is delayed the governor devotes considerable to the discussion of the subject of irrigation he says that of the acres of the territory may be tillable with irrigation the bill now pending before congress for the admission of new mexico provides that acres of state lands shall be devoted to the establishment of reservoirs for irrigating purposes this the governor thinks would be ample for the purpose and entirely satisfactory J he population of A stevenson governor of idaho estimates the population of that territory at about the value of taxable property is given at which his report says is less than half its actual value in cash about acres the territory for the year as of which gold was silver and lead the governor recommends that the indians bo given their lands in severalty and the balance of the reservations bo open to settlement that the people of the territories bo given the right to vote for president and vico president that the territory be given the right to lease school lands and apply the proceeds to the school fund ill treatment he was subjected to the murderer was placed under arrest and delivered to officials at stanley falls ho has since been hanged for his crime FORKS dak oct 16 about a dozen women were brought here under arrest from thompson today all attempts to close the saloons there having failed the ladies tooka hand themselves m gutting the saloons and spilling liquor on the ground for which
