L way of a watch fob fob for a class pin It is neatly designed and bears the inscription Engineer U. U of U. U 07 The boys are to be complimented complimented complimented on their selection The 07 Engineers are certainly a wide-awake wide class and we would not be at all surprised to hear of them storing up vegetables for the Dramatic club The dynamo laboratory is being fitted with a series of switch boards patterned after some in the electrical electrical electrical elec elec- laboratory at Cornell The mass of the board is to be of slate which is decorated to resemble a avery avery avery very beautiful marble It is too bad that a building is not provided for this work As it is the main shaft is fixed to the floor and the pulleys and belting make it very inconvenient to move about in the room This shaft should be under the ceiling with drop belts to the different machines but the instability of the building necessitates necessitates necessitates tates the floor arrangement When the laboratory is finished the floor will be a veritable mosaic of belts Mr Beckstead is still teaching steam engines The subject reminds one of isothermal expansion in the ordinary cylinder you cylinder you have to pour in heat to keep up the interest Students in fire-assaying fire have been experimenting with what is called a pocket smelter It is a small dark-colored dark brick containing a charge calculated to free the metal from most ores The ore is spread over the top the brick which is then lighted and andt t the combustion tion and subsequent r re- re E Er r k actions are arc to what takes place in the regular assay furnace The action over the reduced metal is found in scales on the top the ash and flex retain the initial shape of the brick One can readily see the value of such an assay outfit to a prospector in the field The pocket smelter is not expensive and is accurate to two per cent Laboratory work in Metallurgy started Saturday The students have certainly been handicapped in inthis inthis inthis this regard Three months means a great deal but it can hardly be considered lost for a great deal of outside reading has been required the most recent literature having been considered and discussed The Utah Engineer will soon make its appearance again and we have no doubt but that under the editorship of Clarence G. G Dresser and the business management of Milan L. L Crandall the paper will be highly successful The students in plane surveying are making a complete survey of a number of city blocks and will make maps of the same A great interest is taken in this work and the students students students stu stu- dents are more than pleased with the course they are receiving A certain party in running a line of levels from the Physical Building Building Building Build Build- ing steps to the corner of Thirteenth Thirteenth Thirteenth Thir Thir- East and South Temple checked in their duplicates to six thousandth one-thousandth of a foot That is pretty good for a beginner T There ere are r t three re taking r railroad i surveying this year year year-G.
