Show HETHER our school system can W WHETHER reduced mechanism be to a perfect or not is doubtless an unsolved problem but none the less a problem that some school sch ol boards seem to be hard at work upon In conversation with a teacher the other day we were told that she and her sister teachers devoted devote nearly every moment of their time to work immediately imme imme- connected with their duties as teachers The regular school work takes all day and to meet all the various supervisors takes u up r all the evenings while conventions demand the Saturdays This seems to be pretty near mechanical cal perfection perfection getting getting all out of the machine that it will stand but t the e question question question ques ques- tion arises is it wise to make drudges of teachers Would it not be better to allow them time to improve their minds minds' in other directions and to provide against the danger of becoming pedants After all unconscious mind influence and sympathy may count for more than this constant drudgery We advise University to make the best of what leisure they have now to improve their minds upon a a broader basis than may be practicable after they begin teaching |
