Show Ii J In Direst Need THE University of Utah is an institution institution institution I tion of which every citizen of our i prosper prosperous us Territory ought to be proud Though malevolence has not scrupled pled to cast its slurs upon it tho those e who have taken the trouble to investigate know that the benefits which are being derived from this institution are real and have never been exaggerated ted They know also I o that the charge preferred against it of benefiting only the richer riche class is utterly Jj false that so far from its being true most of the students are either working their own way through their courses or orare orare 0 are doing so upon the most meagre allowances This being the case and the many r advantages to Salt Lake City of having the University permanently established here being apparent we believe an appeal appeal appeal ap ap- peal should be made to the well-to-do well citizens of this city to donate the necessary necessary necessary sary means to tide the University over the next two years The sum required is not large large from from to we are told would do it and we are certain certain certain tain that the appeal would not be made in vain The students who are studying here now can of course go to Palo Alto or to Ann Arbor and the to some Eastern training school or they can return to labor on their fathers' fathers limited limited limited lim lim- acres where labor is already too plentiful and let the positions they hope to fill be given to young men and women from the East but either would be a disgrace to the prospective state which should never be tolerated Times are hard but prospects are brightening There must have been not a few snug com competencies a during the thelong thelong long and almost unbroken prosperity with which until recently Salt Lake City has been blessed Who will help save Utah's reputation and assure her future progress |
