Moy 23, 1974 Vll, VfM Nnpn Wilma Kobb is now recuperating at home after having surgery in Salt Lake recently. While she was there her daughter Eileen Christensen who lives in Canada came down to visit her and a family dinner was held at the Ronald Robbs in Salt Lake. Jerry Rasmussen escaped serious injury when the shirt he was wearing became entagled in the saw that he was running at his grandfather Robb's mill. The shirt was torn to shreds as it was ripped from his body and Jerry was thrown onto some boards. He received a severe gash in his head and a back injury. He was hospitalized for four days at the Duchesne Co. Hospital. James Bandman is employed by Moon Lake and is working in the Colorado area. At present they are trying to find a place to live in Craig, Colo. The Indian Branch presented a Mother's Day program in Sunday school and the mothers were presented with a dish. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Rowley and new baby son, Thad of Santaquin visited Mrs. Rowleys parents, the Dee Allred's last weekend. Delma Long is helping at the Wayne and Beverly Cantwells in Logan as they have a new baby daugher. They have two Karen Grubaugh receives PTA Cultural Arts Reflection Everett Kirkhart, Duchesne, Duchesne County Project award from Patents Teachers Association president Duchesne. Miss Grubaugh, a sixth is one of the 15 entries selected as state winners. She is a PTA PROJECT WINNER- - Mrs. grade pupil, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Grubaugh, Duchesne. Duchesne girl wins award in PTA event cultural arts honorable mention awards were also given. Miss Grubaugh, 12, won the honor and award with her entry in the literature category. Her entry was a poem about America. Childrens theatre workshop to be held There will be a children's theatre workshop held June 3 Aug. 3 in Roosevelt. There will be three age groups: 6-and There will also be dance classes held in connection with the theatrical workshop. Final activity for the workshop will be a major UBIC production, The Little Chimney Sweep. In addition to rehearsing for the production which will climax the workshop activities, there will be exercises in imaginative and creative thinking and characterization. Mr. and Mrs. Don Simmons have purchased a new trailer house and it was delivered this week and was set up on their ranch 1 Vi miles east of Whiterocks. Their son, Clay and family are living in their home out on the east bench. Senate seat is sought by Howard Nielson Rep. Howard C. Nielson, Provo, Speaker of the Utah State House of Representatives, announced today that he will seek the Republican nomination to the United States Senate. This seat has been held for four terms by Sen. Wallace F. Bennett. Rep. Nielson, a native of Richfield, has been a professor of statistics at Brigham Young University since 1957. Prior to that, he served three years in the United States Army, and was a research economist for six years for Stanford Research Institute. He is a graduate of the University of Utah and holds three graduate degrees. Rep. Nielson has been active in public affairs for many years. During the past eight years he has served in the Utah legislature as majority leader, as speaker and as chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee and the LegisBudget-Aud- it lative Council. He authored many bills especially in the areas of reapportionment, election reform, tax reform and industrial development. Rep. Nielson said, I am strongly for the development of the Alaskan Oil pipeline which was tragically held up by an excessive concern for the environment I support our public officials, particularly Attorney General Romney, in efforts to secure title to the oil shale lands in Utah, and I would press for utilization of these lands in the most expeditious manner. Congress of Parents-Teacher- s Karen Grubaugh, a sixth grade pupil, and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Grubaugh, Duchesne, received her award from Mrs. Everett Kirkhart, Duchesne, president of the Duchesne County PTA Council, at the state PTA Convention in Salt Iake, May 10. Her entry was submitted along with other winners, to National PTA to represent Utah at the National Convention to be held at San Antonio, Texas on May 1922. Each of the state winners will receive a book entitled, "From Secrets of the Sea" from Readers' Digest. For the last five years, National PTA has had a Cultural Arts Reflection Project in fields of art, music and literature. Throughout Utah, many have participated this past year in the Cultural Arts Projects and Fairs. There are 12 PTA Regions in the Stale of Utah and each one had entries chosen to represent them on the stale level. Thursday, Lori Christensen went to Highway high school and participated in the softball throw in the girls' State Track Meet. She qualified for state by placing 2nd in the Region 10 meet Saturday, seven members of the track team participated in the State Track Meet at Snow College. Joe Fieldsted placed 3rd in the low hurdles, Calvin Roberts placed 4th in the mile, Mike Miles took 2nd in pole vaulting and 3rd in long jump, and the medley relay team (Joe F., Bruce T., Dee L., and Mack F.) took 2nd. Friday night at the Inagural Dance, the new studentbody officers were announced. Eric Fisher is studentbody president. Joe Fieldsted is vice president, Jill Bleazard is secretary and Debbie Bird is historian. Varsity cheerleaders are Gail Mecham. Denise Mathews, Sandy Christensen and Jesse Roe Jessen. JV Cheerleaders are Janae Tucker, Kim Goodrich, Linda Goodrii-- and Barbara Ilanke.
