People generally are expecting a copious water supply this summer, on account of the unusually large amount of precipitation in the form of snow and rain last winter; but they are to be disappointvery likely ed to some extent in their anticipations. Land and Water Commissioner MacKnight sounds a note of timely warning to those who are preparing to revel to the extent of waste and extravagance in the abundance of the supply. Mr. MacKnight, who has made considerable personal investigation into the amount of snow stored away in the hills, says that much of the unusually large amount of moist-tur- e which fell during the winter and spring months has been absorbed by the thirsty ground, which was baked and parched and deprived of almost its last drop of moisture by the burning suns of the past two or three years, the amount of moisture having been reduced to a minimum on account of the small precipitation in those years. The parched earth drank up the rain and snow and until its normal condition of wetness is reached will not give out through the springs and rivers anything approximating the amount of water which the excessive snows would warrant under normal conditions.. Much of the snow in Parleys canyon has thus early disappeared. While there will probably not be such a scarcity of water as was experienced last summer, Mr. MacKnight says there will be no floods, and the anticipations of the sanguine ones will not be realized. o Remember the Durlington Is the short line from Denver to all the east, and there is no better service In the world than we give you.
