Show SOME PERTINENT FACTS ABOUT COAL I I 8 It is the use of fire that distinguishes man from brute. It II I is heat that is the main spring of modern progress, the latent I power which puts in motion the great forces of nature -- and 1 6 the most available means of exerting that power, at the dis- j I I posal of man, is coal. Coal is the real king, the real creative j B power of the world. 1 I So much for generalities - we'll get nearer home. I Coal mining is one of Utah's leading industries. The I reason for the prominence of this industry lies in the good 1 quality of the coal. 1 I Analysis of Castle Gate coal show 1 per cent to 2 per cent I moisture, 4 to 6 per cent ash, leaving about 93 per cent Com- bustible Volatile matter and Fixed Carbon that is, out of one p III ton, about 20 sacks, there is probably one sack returned as ash. I The division of volatile matter and Carbon insures a free 1 I burning fire, yet there is sufficient carbon to cause it to burn a long time, making it an economical fuel. I I . In fact, Utah produces a really high grade of bituminous , f I J coal. It ignites and burns freely, with a clear strong blaze, 1 leaves but little ash, and is remarkable for the length of time j it burns. 1 I Mines are located at Castle Gate, Clear Creek, Winter 1 I Quarters and Sunny Side, but the coal best suited for domestic f I uses is mined at Castle Gate and Clear Creek. Most retail dealers sell it. ' V m I 1 Winter Quarters coal is a good steam producer. , I I THE UTAH FUEL COMPANY II SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH ' ' ' ' 4 1 H. G.
