Show Parker Hamilton, Famous Area Photographer, Dies A good friend of many people in Southeastern Utah passed away April 22 in Flagstaff, Arizona. Parker ("Ham") Hamilton, whose photographic reflections of this area are widely known, had celebrated his seventy fourth birthday last September while in Moab. After many years as a popular mathematics professor profess-or at Antioch College in Ohio, Ham and his wife, Dilly, moved to Flagstaff in the 1950' s. There, he turned his photographic avocation into a full-time adventure devoted to the people of the Southwest, their lives, and their unique environmental backdrop. C. Gregory Crampton, in his preface to Standing Up Country, Coun-try, acknowledges the Hamil-tons Hamil-tons as having "covered more of the surface of the canyon country than any two people I have known." But it is well . beneath the surface, in the lives of those who knew him, that Ham will be remembered. |
