Show leading geizen of moab passes away following brief illness death is keen blow to hundreds of friends grand county sustained another grievous loss wednesday forenoon at 11 0 clock when william G somer valle prominent cattleman and one of the leading citizens of moab passed away following a brief illness death was caused by an intestinal infection mr Somer vUIe had been onla twelve days and many of his friends did not realize that his condition was serious until a few hours before the end when he took a sudden change for the worse mr Somer vUIe became at his ranches on indian creek early last week and returned to his home at moab for medical treatment IUs condition at that time was not alarming it appearing that he was suffering from a form of influenza special nurses were obtained and two doctors were called to attend him he appeared to be making fair improvement until tuesday afternoon of this week when an intestinal complication arose and his condition immediately became alarming he conter aed to sink rapidly and death came at 11 0 clock the next day mr som was conscious almost to the last news of the sudden death of will Somer vUIe has cast a pall of gloom over grand county where he was known and highly respected by every man woman and child funeral services aul wul be held this thursday afternoon at 4 0 clock from the L D S chapel at moab and burial will be at the local cemetery william G Somer vUIe was 57 years of age he was born jan 23 1872 at mona utah the son of andrew and hannah gittes Somer vUIe plon errs of utah when he was a boy his family moved to moab and he resided here continuously until his death mr Somer vUIe had been a cattleman all his life at the age of 15 years he started to ride for his father at the death of his father some years ago juliam and his brother andrew succeeded to the business which was run as a partnership for many years later the bothers became associated with J A and purchased the large indian creek cattle company interests in san juan county the merged their livestock interests with the newly acquired property and the Somer vUle cattle company was organized W G Somer vUle becoming vice president and range manager of the company the company Is the largest cattle concern in the state of utah and Is said to be the largest single user of national forest ranges in the united states mr Somer vUle was married to alsa annie webb of moab sept 28 laoo to their union two sons were born both of whom survive he Is survived by his widow his sons liulam 11 and richard 8 two brothers andrew and james Somer vUle of moab and four sisters mrs anna mrs sarah mcconkle mrs W D hammond and miss jennie Somer vUle all residing at moab W 0 Somer vUle was one of the most substantial citizens of southeastern utah and his death removes one of the forceful and influential characters of grand and san juan counties he made a remarkable success of his utes work due to industry frugality honesty and the faculty of quietly attending to his own affairs wua Somer vUle was known throughout the intermountain country as a man of honesty whose word was as good as gold although he attained to tar greater success in this life than comes to the average man he was always quiet and unassuming never intruding into the affairs of others he never cared for public life although he kept in the background in matters of political and civic interest his advice and opinions were widely sought and he was always quietly but effectively championing those movements that fiade for a better town county and state will Somer vUle was a good man a good citizen a good neighbor a good friend his death Is a hard blow to his town and county to his wife and chugren to whom he was passionately devoted the sincere sympathy of all Is extended may they be comforted by the knowledge that he lived a clean earnest honorable life and leaves behind a name and record of which they may justly feel proud |
