Show Moab Teacher Returns from Special School Rowena Palmer returned recently from two weeks of teaching at the Lion's summer school for the blind, held on Casper Mountain, Wyoming. The school is an annual event sponsored by . the Lions Clubs across the country as part of their ongoing on-going efforts to aid the blind. Mrs. Palmer taught handicrafts han-dicrafts at the school including inclu-ding macrame, a kind of decorative knot tying. Fifty two people including a nurse, nur-se, two cooks and the teaching tea-ching staff attended the school. In charge of the entire en-tire program was II. Smith Shumway, a totally blind man, who has charge of programs for the blind in Wyoming. Six class periods were held each day including such subjects as braille, typing, nature study, public pub-lic speaking, spelling, arithmetic, arith-metic, social problems, and self care. The children were also treated to evening ac. tivitics such as games and bowling. |
