Show Job Opening Picture is Better in Utah Despite climbing unem- ' ployment insurance claims, the job opening picture in Utah improved during the week ended January 16, reported Manly B. Lincoln, manager of the Moab employment em-ployment sceurity office. For the week they totaled1 total-ed1 716, compared to 427 the week before and 569 for the week of January 17, a year ago. But insured unemployment unemploy-ment continued to increase as 13,483 continuing claims were filed during the week, an increase of 780 over the week before, and 1,788 more than for the week of January 17, 1970. Initial claims for unemployment unem-ployment benefits showed an appreciable drop, from 2,543 for the week of Jan. uary 9, to 2,044 for the current cur-rent week. A year ago, initial ini-tial claims totaled 1,546. Mr. Lincoln said filing claims for unemployment benefits were 4.66 percent of all workers covered by state and federal unemploy. iment insurance laws in Utah. Ut-ah. Nationally, he pointed out, the similar figure is in excess of 5.0 per cent. The unemployment picture pic-ture for Grand and San Juan counties remained at the same level as the week before, 33 per thousand, thous-and, but somewhat higher than the same week of one pear ago, 23 per thousand. The state average was reported at 44 per thousand thous-and with a slight gain over the week before at 42 per thousand. One year ago the state average was 38 per thousand. During the previous week 59 weekly claims were filed through the Moab office. |
