Whatever the reason for grief, it is predictable Local and normal. Coping with Grief and Winning will be a four part series for those who are grieving and for those who have grieved. These informal sessions will be a form of survival training for an emotion which is part of living. As an outgrowth of these workshops we would like to form a widowed persons service with the idea that widowed persons who have made a satisfactory adjustment to life after the death of a spouse are to qualified offer emotional, social and community needs necessary to start such a service. SUSAN ANN POLING . . . plans recital Recital planned Susan Ann Poling, a soprano, will be presented in a senior recital by the Weber State College music department March 14 at 8 p.m. It will be held in the Little Theater of the Val A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. The public is invited. Parents of the recitalist are Mr. and Mrs. Albert Poling of Roy. Miss Poling is a graduate of Ben Lomond High School. She is a member of the WSC A Capella Choir, and will graduate from Weber State with a bachelors degree in elementary education and a concentration in music. She is a student of Inga Plaas Smith. Appearing on the program with Miss Poling will be Brent Applonie, clarniet and a quartet including Mr. Applonie, Jim Allen, Duane Cooke, and Jeff Manning. Carol Fowers is ac- companist. I enjoyed being a part of the state cook-of- f and the trip to Florida was the highlight of the contest. The National Chicken Contest is now in its fourth decade. Chicken is still one of the most versatile and economical foods around. The per capita consumption continues to rise every year and cooks are always looking for new and different ways to prepare it. If you have a favorite recipe that is a little special and a little different, enter it in the 1979 National Chicken Cooking Contest and you just might become $10,000 richer. Thats the top prize to be awarded July 25, in Charleston, South Carolina, at the 31st annual National Chicken Cooking Contest. Another $10,000 will be divided among the runner-u- p recipes. They spend most of the time in the Sand Diego area and attended the BYU San Diego basketball game while there. They also spend some time on Coronado Island off the coast of San Diego, and enjoyed the warm sunny weather in Palm Springs. They were away about nine days. The young baby of Les and Jean Thomas has been seriously ill at home with pneumonia. is Linda Russell recuperating at home following surgery recently in a local hospital. Moses and Helen Hansen have been on an extended vacation to sunny Arizona and on to California taking in many of the tourist attractions along the way. Elizabeth Huntsman has been in the hospital with pneumonia but is home now and feeling better. Cecil and Valma Huntsman have been on a vacation trip to California. They spent most of the time in the Santa Maria area, where they visited with Mrs. Huntsmans sister. Joan Pingree has been in Ammon, Idaho for a week. She went to help her daughter Maureen Simmons and her husband Lanny Simmons with their new baby daughter. She was born Feb. 24 and was a special birthday present for grandfather, James Pingree. The Simmons have another daughter in their family. Paternal gradparents are Frank and Ruth Simmons, also of Roy. Glen and Melba Stoker went to Denver, Colorado for a few days on a combined business and pleasure trip. They visited with a son, who lives in the Denver area. Susan Poling, of Roy, who is a music major at Weber State College, will be presented in a senior vocal recital on March 14 in the Little Theater at the Fine Arts Center. The public is invited to the recital, which begins at 8 p.m. Milo and LaVon Peterson were thoroughly delighted with a recent trip to the South Pacific. They were with a tour which visited the island of Fiji, Samoa and New Zeland. In Samoa, they attended a special LDS Stake conference and a Maori feast. In New Zealand, they attended a session at the LDS Temple and saw the Pageant presented there each year on the grounds of the temple. On their return from the Pacific, they joined Mr. Petersons sister and her husand for a trip to Mesa, Arizona and San Diego. Frank and Blanche Mower have been trevelling for a while. They went to Southern California and into Arizona. Blake and Carolyn Corbridge are happy to announce that they have a baby boy, their first child. Two showers were given for the new baby; one by La Dale Vanderdoes at her home in Roy, for family members, and the other by the young girls in Mrs. Corbridge's LDS Mutual class. |
