The images they made to worship, they called by the names of the planets plan-ets they represented; that is, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars,ApollOj Mercury , Venus, and Diana. These were first ranked in the polytheism of the ancients, for they were their first gods. After this, a notion sprang up among them that good men who had departed this life, had great power with God to mediate for them, thereforo they Dei fied many whom they thought to be such, and hence their gods greatly increased in those idolatrous times. This idolatry first begau among the Chaldeans, and from there it spread all over the East and from thence it was carried to Egypt, and from Egypt it spread to the western nations of Europe and wherever people worship by Images. Sennacherib the great king of Assyria, after having conquered con-quered Egypt and returned and camped camp-ed against Lachish, one of the waylaid way-laid cities of Juden, he sent a threatening threat-ening message to the king of Judea. but the prophet Isaiah quieted tli fears of the. king by telling him God would send a blast upon them, which was soon fulfilled, for as they aros:-one aros:-one morning, 185,000 of the soldier of Sennacherib lay dead in their comp. and he took the small remnant ief1 and fled into his own land; and, supposing sup-posing he had in some way offended his gods, he purposed offering up his two oldest sons to nppease their wrath, but the sons learning of his plan, sought an opportunity and while he was worshipping his go d Nisroch, in his temple, they crept on him and slew him with their swords and then fled into Armenia, and a younger son took the throne. The people of the Eastern nations of Asia professed great reverence for the patriarch Abraham and declared that their religion re-ligion was that which Abraham practiced, prac-ticed, but it was a gross error. If all the scenes of blood were recorded it would require hundreds of volumes to J contain them. The Sabians had a bible which they said Seth wrote, but they called it by the name of his son Sabius. In regard to their religion they were deceived, for Abraham worshiped worship-ed the true and living God that Adam worshiped. We have some of his own writings, translated by the proph et Joseph Smith, from papyrus found on a mummy brought from Egypt.
