Over 150 people came and visited with him, pictures were taken and a good time was had by all, but the one thing that stood out in my mind were the wonderful memories shared with his children, including me. History was made, not only in the 100-year celebration, celebra-tion, but in the accolades expressed, the kindness, appreciation for him, the thoughts and reminiscences of years long gone by. A big indelible mark has been made on so many lives because be-cause of my father. It was wonderful! In Springville there are many citizens who have influenced in-fluenced children and adults for good, helped them in some way along life's path, set a great example, given encouragement and lent a listening ear. To you, both past and present, THANK YOU! Scoutmasters are some of the most often mentioned when it comes to molding young men's lives - Byron Cottam, Vane Zobell, Clark Day, Alan Poulson and Guy Wilson are a few I know of. Geri Wilson worked diligently dili-gently with the cub scouts as well as Alona Huf faker, for 20 years, and Lena Bartholomew, Bar-tholomew, just to name a few. The list could go on and oa Max Alleman, along with Pete Orton, together concocted con-cocted many great Dutch oven stews for the scouts Johnson Tire 439-5521 61 ON. I remember the meal served at the 150: year celebration of Spring-ville's Spring-ville's birthday held in the West Fields pasture and served by these special people. They and others like them led 50-mile hikes with scouts in tow. They taught young men to love nature, revere and land, the forests and the wildlife, and to love this great country. How many of our leaders today pay tribute to those who led them, who set an example and gave them a push to excel in all they do? The young ladies in town have also been influenced by their leaders as they have attended girls camp and been taught similar subjects when out in the wilds. There are so many great leaders, but one mentioned to me was Mary Marshall, who passed away recently. Mary had a little body with a lot of spitfire housed in it. Lemonade Lemon-ade was always made with lemons when you were with Mary. One one occasion as they were camped out in the mountains, it rained and rained, but Mary would get up in the morning, hollering to the girls -BANANAS -and they were to yell back the same salutation, and if not loud enough, they were requested to do it again and again. With this famous word and her enthusiasm, the girls learned much and have carried a similar attitude at-titude as they have been called to similar leadership positions. "Act enthusiastic and you "WEDO: I Alignments -Mufflers I Brakes -Emissions Tune-Ups -Inspections Starters Custom Wheels Radiators Alternators i I 3 1 'SPRINGVILLE HERALD will be enthusiastic," was Mary's motto. There are so many folks who have given much in different roles in our community. com-munity. A dear citizen, who also passed away not too long ago, was Jane Strong, the lady.whp loved pink in flowers, in her clothing and in her home,' She loved life and when meeting her in a store or on the street, you were greeted warmly with a smile - always. Another great example. Don Watts, the owner of the original Brookside Market Mar-ket located were Reams is, always had a smile on his face. He greeted you as if you were the only person around, always helpful He expressed his appreciation for you by word and deed. I miss the small store atmo1 sphere. The former doctors in Springville, Dr. Orton, Dr. Parker, Dr. Judd, Dr. Marshall, Mar-shall, and others too, had time to talk to you. You were not a number, and if you needed a little encouragement encour-agement or a listening ear, or you needed to converse with them over the phone, they were there to hear. They were special folks who METALBUimGEiCTOlto tEncimr I Licensed I 801-367-4437 435-623-4606 C Law Office ot CHRISTOPHER K. This is a special zoo and does not charge an entrance fee. It only requires that you respect the animals vand property. The collection of birds and animals has ex- cited and pleased literally hundreds and hundreds of children and their parents over the years. It will soon be time for new little animals ani-mals to come forth. There are little piglets on display now. What an educational opportunity for the children in our community. The owner of our "zoo" is a former scout leader, a neighbor with great compassion com-passion for his fellow beings, especially the widows, and he is never without a smile. He is a gentleman with lots of enthusiasm. Dutch Hall has given much to this community. com-munity. His zoo is located on west Center Street. I also appreciate the ladies la-dies who have worked at the Springville Library, the millions of hours they have spent answering questions, helping young and old to find the right book. And what about the myriads myri-ads of school teachers who have made such, a difference differ-ence in so many lives - Mrs. Kaufman, an English teacher teach-er at SHS comes to mind, a stickler for perfection, but all were taught well.
