A successful and impressive comraderie night ceremony and social was conducted m the Fnst ward Gleaner class last Tuesday evening under the direction of Mrs Warren Beardall and Mrs. W H Brown. Following dismissal dismis-sal from regular class work the girls enjoyed singing of Gleaner longs and recital of the Gleaner sheaf. Bach girl then took the Gleaner oath in an effective ceie-mony ceie-mony conducted by Mrs. Minerva Weight, M. I. A. president. Miss Myrtle Childs of the presidency, in an interesting manner, gave the story of Ruth. After the singing of Gleaner songs, refreshments refresh-ments were served to twenty- Sumsion, Miss Bernice Jensen, Frank Carnesecca, Miss Wanda Stewart, Howard Clark, Miss Margaret Mar-garet Pierce, Floyd Holley, Miss Bernice Johnson, Blake Averett, Miss Mildred Holley, Earl Men-denhall, Men-denhall, Miss Elaine Crandall, Blaine Wheeler, Miss Dona Collins, Col-lins, J. Ross Jones, Miss t Betty Boyer, Max Sumsion. The last regular meeting of the Ad Libitum club was held at the home of Miss Lola Smith. Cards featured the . entertainment, together to-gether with a tasty lunch served by the hostess. There were present, pres-ent, Miss Afton Bringhurst, Miss Naomi Sumsion, Mrs. Mae Miller, Mrs. Helen Rowland, M!ss Bernice Ber-nice Jensen, Miss Marie Clegg, Mrs. Hortense Harward and Miss Wanda Stewart. Mrs. Adelia McPherson will be hostess to members of the Old Friends' club at her home Friday evening. All members are urged to be present. Mrs. Emma Gardner of ogden spent a few days of the past week with relatives and friends here. She came especially for the Legion auxiliary meeting. Daughters of Pioneers, Camp Aaron Johnson wil Ibe entertained entertain-ed on Thursday, February 17, at the home of Mrs. Ernest A. Strong. Several hostesses have been appointed to assist with the afternoon's entertainment. An enjoyable meeting of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Springville was held at the home of Mrs. Lou Binks, Thursday Thurs-day afternoon. Following community com-munity singing, Mrs. Myrtle Harrison, Har-rison, offered the invocation. Roll call was answered with Lincoln sentiments. Mrs. Mary Witney gave a piano solo and greetings were by Captain Lela Sumsion. A report from the cheer committee commit-tee was given by Mrs. Retta Sumsion. Sum-sion. The lesson on "Miracles of Pioneer Days," was given by Mrs. Dorothy Wheeler. Mrs. Emma Long gave New Year thoughts. Allegiance to the flag was led by Mrs. Birdella Bearnson, after-which after-which the group sang, "Utah We Love Thee. The meeting concluded conclud-ed with the serving of dainty refreshments re-freshments with Mrs. Birdella Bearnson, Mrs. Hattie Smith, Mrs. Olive McCurdy, Mrs. Irene Strong and Mrs. Ella Reynolds, acting as assisting hostesses. 1 Announcement is made of the recent marriage of Marion W. Coffma1! of this city and Odessa M. Lusty also of Springville. Socially and financially successful success-ful was the annual junior prom held Friday evening in Memorial hall. A large group of local students, stu-dents, a number of alumni and many from out-of-town enjoyed the delightful affair. Mrs. W. H. Anderson of this city has been in Idaho Falls, Ida. the past ten days due to the illness ill-ness and death of her mother. Members of the Jeune Mere club were delightfully entertained Wednesday night, at the home of True Clyde, Mrs. Edna Clyde, Mrs. Florence Allen, Mrs. Beth Jensen, Mrs. Naomi Thorn and Mrs. Gweneth Thorn, Mrs. Marie Whiting, mem-bers. The regular meeting of the Legion auxiliary was held Wednesday Wed-nesday night, at Memorial hall, under the direction of President Emma Gardner. A special feature of the program was a talk on "National Defense," given in a very comprehensive and interesting interest-ing manner, by Principal W. W. Brockbank of the high school. A number of high school students furnished patriotic music during the evening. Rex Johnson entertained enter-tained with a vocal solo, as did Miss Tess Cherrington and Keith Averett. Miss Phyllis Smart was accompanist. At the conclusion of the meeting, a dainty lunch was served by the hostesses, Mrs. Inez Chader, Mrs. Melba Pennington Penning-ton and Mrs. LaPreal Fiiel. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Bird and Mrs. Clara Harrison spent Wednesday Wed-nesday with relatives and friends in Bingham and Midvale. Verl Whiting returned recently Mrs. Floss Cates entertained members of the Fidelity Bridge club at her home Friday evening. A delicious luncheon was served early .in the evening to .eight club members. Later bridge was enjoyed en-joyed with prizes being won by Mrs. Flora Maiben and Mrs. Faye Cranmer. The next meeting of the club is scheduled for Friday, February 25, at the home of Mrs. Faye Cranmer. A nicely arranged party of the past week was one given by Mss Fern Ostler Friday night at her home for a number of B. Y. U. friends. A decorative color scheme suggestive of Valentine was employed em-ployed in room decorations and during the tasty luncheon. Contract Con-tract bridge was the feature of entertainment with prize for the game being won by Miss Idell Warnock of Richfield. Others in attendance were Miss Beth A Her of Duchesne, Miss Vera Neves of Wyoming, Miss Iris Parker of Joseph, Miss Aleene Anderson of Elsinore, Miss Emma Lou Storrs of Consumers, Miss Melpha Binks, Miss Virginia Sill-kins, Sill-kins, Miss Lois Hales, and Miss Rhoda Thompson of Springville. Mrs. Luell S. Best had as her dinner guests on Friday, MiS3 Bertha Bearnson, Miss Prudence Mvs. Mabel Wright. From beautifully beau-tifully decorated tables suggestive suggest-ive of St. Valentine, a tasty luncheon lunch-eon was served by the hostess. An interesting feature of the evening eve-ning was the reading of a book of clippings by Mrs. Ella Reynolds. A short business meeting was also held under the direction of the president, Mrs. Marie Whiting. He visited college col-lege friends at Columbia, Ohio, and spent some time in Washington, Washing-ton, D. C. and New York. He also spent a few days at the National Na-tional Roadbuilders' convention at Cleveland, Ohio. He was gone about two weeks. Mrs. J. W. Olsen of this city was a special guest at a meeting of .the Daughters of Pioneers, Camp No. 3, at Provo, Wednesday afternoon, where she gave an interesting in-teresting talk on pioneer relics and displayed a lovely collection of beautiful dresses worn by her ' mother and grandmother together with numerous other heirlooms which have 'been in the family for many years. She also has some outstanding scrap books and "Treasures of Truth," which she showed to the interested gcoup during the afternoon. Mrs. Carrie Tripp had as her week end guests, Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Tripp, Mr. and Mrs. Paul McFarland and Mr. and Mrs. J.A-Lattimer J.A-Lattimer of Salt Lake City. Members of the Alpha Beta club were pleasantly entertained Friday Fri-day afternoon, at the home of Mrs. M. F. Miner. The program featured an interesting review of the book, "Leanora," by Arnold Bennett, given in an interesting manner by Miss Eunice Bird of the Provo high school faculty, j Mrs. Evelyn M. Boyer entertained ! with a vocal selection, "Indian j Love Song," and Miss Phyllis Jensen Jen-sen gave two piano solos "Madril-ena "Madril-ena Spanish Fastarie," and "Pure ents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McPherson, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hume, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Palf reyman, Mr. and Mrs. Art Cranmer, Mr. and Mrs. Verl Mann. Members of the Ladies' Literary Liter-ary club will be entertained Thursday Thurs-day evening at the home of Mrs. Clara Sumsion. All are urged to be present at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Packard spent the past week in California. They were accompanied by M. O. Packard, who will spend several weeks there. During their stay they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. M. O. Packard Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Taylor at Los Angeles. En route home, Mr. and Mrs. Packard spent a short time at Boulder dam. ' Among the enjoyable parties of the week was the Valentine dance carnival given by members of the Ad Libitum club and their partners, Monday night at Chicken Roost. The rooms were beautifully decorated with red and white carnations car-nations and other Valentine motifs. mot-ifs. Caps, horns and balloons added to the spirit of the occasion. Following Fol-lowing a delicious chicken supper, the remainder of the time was spent dancing. In attendance were the following couples: Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Harward, Mr. and Mrs. Max Rowland, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Howard As Snow." In conclusion a dainty lunch was served by the hostess to eighteen club members and guests. Of interest to their many friends here, :s the marriage of Miss Gol-da Gol-da Silcr. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Siler of Birdseye, and Lyman Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Smith of this city, which took place Monday, February Febru-ary 14, in Provo. Immediately after their marriage the couple left for San Diego, Calif., where they will make their home, Mr. Smith being employed in airplane service in that city. Mrs.- Holen Robbins was hostess Wednesday evening to members of the Ave Delma club at her home. A tastefully arranged luncheon with decorations suggestive sugges-tive of Valentine was served early in tne evening, followed by progressive pro-gressive bridge. Prizes for the j games ' were won by Mrs. Dolly Smith, member, and Mrs. Evelyn Fry, a guest. Others present were Mi s. Alice Ence, Mrs. Norma Noe, Mrs. Viola Smith of Spanish Fork, Mrs. Coe Straw, Mrs. Leona Allen, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. Carrie Tripp, Mrs. Velma Roylance, Mrs. Elsie Robinson, Mrs. Naomi Beard-all, Beard-all, the latter three being guests. Mr. and Mrs. Mell Kellcy were surprised with a party by a number num-ber of friends at their home Monday Mon-day evening. Cards featured the entertainment and a delicious supper sup-per was also enjoyed. Card prizes were won by Mr. and Mrs. Upton Cherrington and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Robertson.
