Show Justice Believes Dissenters Aid World Progress DENVER, Colo., July 7 (I'.E) Ben C. Hilliard, jovial, genial public servant whom the people of Colorado Colo-rado rewarded with a supreme court judgeship last election, believes be-lieves that the "dissenters' of the world are responsible for a large part of the progress of civilization. "It is easy for a man in a legislative legis-lative body or in a group of judges to agree with the majority, but a man who desires to accomplish benefits for his fellow men must consider the facts from all sides, and if he reaches the conclusion that t.he majority opinion is wrong, he must have the courage to stand on his hind feet and say so." Judge Hilliard, a tall, angular man, whose white hair is worn rather long, has attained quite a reputation as a humorist. During an address before a group of lawyers law-yers he was interrupted with the query: "Ben, if the people elect you to th supreme court, will you hand down humorous opinions?" "Well," replied the judge. "I don't believe I could write anything more humorous than some of the decisions that are being handled down at the present time." |
