Show NEW MAYORS ELECTED IN FOUR CITIES Payson, Spanish Fork, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and American Fork Change Heads In the city, elections in the seven larger cities of Utah county, four new mayors were elected. The new mayors who will take office in Jan-i uary 1925 are T. F. Tolhurst of Pnyson, Lnrs Neilson of Spanish Fork, Frank. I?. Newman of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove and Dr. James II. Grant of American Fork. For an off-year election, Tues- ilay's affair was exceptionally exciting excit-ing and alive in most of the cities of Utah county. In some places less than ten votes separated the winning win-ning end the losing candidate for mayor. Especially was this true In Springville where President George R. Maycock of the Kolob stake was re-elected by 321 votes, while his opponent, op-ponent, Harold Alleman of the Springville high school fnculty received re-ceived 314 votes. In Lehi the Republican candidate for mayor, Joseph S. Broadbent, incumbent, in-cumbent, won over A. B. Anderson with only 35 votes. While the race for mayor In Pay-son Pay-son was more or less one-sided the race for Borne of the other offices in-that in-that community made up in excitement, excite-ment, three officers wining out by only two votes. ' In American Fork the Democrats wrenched the Republicans from power which they have maintained contlnuonosly for several years. Thomas Coddlngton, present mayor, was defeated by Dr. James M. 3rant In Pleasant Grove the Republican candidate, Junius A. West, cashier f the Bank 'of Pleasant Grove and nayor of the city two years ago, .vas defeated by Frank Bird Newman, New-man, a teacher at the Lincoln high school on Provo Bench. The election In Spanish Fork was featured by the big vote polled by J. P. Christopherson for his rev election as city recorder. A proportionately large vote. was cast in most of the cities 'in the county. |
