Show KOLOD STAKE IS PRONOUNCED HUGE SUCCESS The leading social event of the I past week was the Kolob stake nut-I nut-I ing held Wednesday afternoon at Kelley's Grove, Hobble Creek ean-: ean-: yon. Activities of the day began at I 2 o'clock, when a ball game between the farmers and the business men of the stake was staged. The farm- ers were declared the winners. ' After this game another one was J arranged between members of the high priest quorum and the Relief Society. Men dressed in unique costumes to represent the Indies of the society added spirit to the occasion, occa-sion, and in spite of the handicap of the costumes they wore they won the game with a big score. While the games and races for older people were being staged, Mrs. Nell Alleman directed games and awarded prizes to all the small children present. A prize was also awarded to the the stake the greatest number of years. Mrs. Milessa Messenger .ind W. K. Johnson, Sr., who have lived in Springville since 1850, the year the town was settled, were awarded these prizes. Another prize was i awarded the couple present who had been married the longest. Mr. and Mrs. Ira Day of Elmo, Utah, who have celebrated their fiftieth anniversary, received this prize. Many other prizes were awarded for various events. Miss Helen Alleman entertained the crowd with several splendid readings. The Springville band, ""directed ""di-rected by E. L. Faux, gave a concert after which" most of the people present pres-ent adjourned to different parts of the grove to enioy picnic suppers. I The day's activities were concluded conclud-ed with a dance on the open-air j floor. i B. M. Mendenhall, Hugh Baxter ' nad Mrs. Nell Alleman directed the ! sports during the afternoon. One of the largest crowds that has ever ; been at the grove participated. |
