Show ;,:;ige sugar PRODUCTION IS PREDICTED Utah-Idaho District Will Average Output of Last Ten Years. Beet sugar production in Utah county, while it will probably not exceed 80 per cent of the early season sea-son estimates, will be a fair average aver-age over a number of years, according ac-cording to County Agent J. P. Yelch. The beets in several sections sec-tions of the county where water has been more plentiful are doing fairly well, while in other localities Where the drought has been more severe, the crop is not so good. The four sugar factories in the county, at Lehi, Springville, Spanish Span-ish Pork and Payson, and the two slicers at Pleasant Grove and Lake-view, Lake-view, will run as usual, although the season run is expected to be shorter than at previous years, according ac-cording to officials of the sugar companies. S. H. Love, president of the United Slates Sugar Manufacturers' association, declared Monday that the beet sugar production iu the Utah-Idaho sugar company's district dis-trict this year will must probably exceed the average production for the last ten years. The severe drought will reduce the crops considerable consid-erable from early season estimates, according to Mr. Love. Prom the best figures obtainable the Utah-Idaho sugar beet districts will produce approximately 3,000,-oou 3,000,-oou bags of sugar, .Mr. Love announced. an-nounced. While this is a considerable consider-able reductio from the out turn of last year the district will continue to hold second place in the country's production of beet sugar. The district dis-trict comprising the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains, or Colorado, Colo-rado, Wyoming, Montana aud ' Nebraska will maintain its position as the largest beet sugar producing section in the United States, as it is understood the crop in that section sec-tion is exceptionally good. From present indications the total production of beet sugar in the United States will reach 850,000 long tons or about 00,000 in excess of the production of last year. This is quite a falling off on the estimates esti-mates put one by experts some time ago, when it was believed the production pro-duction figures would reach a million mil-lion long tons. In the Utah-Idaho district the sugar factories start, as a rule, between be-tween the first and the tenth of October. This year, due to the falling fall-ing off in beet tonnage by reason of the long dry spell, and providing the weather continues warm, some of the plants will not be started until a little later. Utah-Idaho Sugar company officials offic-ials announced Monday that two of the company plants, one in Idaho and one in Utah, will start the annual an-nual campaign between October. 1 and October 10.
