Show FARMERS ASK DISMISSAL OF COUNTY AGENT Weber County Farmers Petition Peti-tion Against Reappointment Reappoint-ment of Agent. OGDEN-, Nov., IS. A petition signed by 320 persons, who set forth that they are "farmers, taxpayers and lawn owners of Weber county" protesting against the re-appointment of W. Preston Thomas, county agricultural agent, was filed with the county commissioners Monday. The petition is as follows: '"In making this protest we are actuated by the fact that the county agent simply creates strife and contention con-tention between the farmers, and this is a source of expense to the county, with no corresponding benefits. bene-fits. "Further, we see no reason why an organization like the farm bureau bur-eau should be given the appointment of an agent to build up certain interests in-terests in the county as against the balance of the farmers and taxpayers. tax-payers. It is a well-known fact that, only a favored few have received any attention from the county ngeni and it is a joke to say that a county coun-ty agent is of any benefit to Weber county." John M. Child, chairman of the board of county commissioners, said that the matter would be considered in its course, the commissioners being be-ing too busy with other matters today to-day to give it attention. The petition was handed to the commissioners Monday afternoon by Joseph Barker of North Ogden, leader lead-er in a movement which has been under way for some time to oust Mr. Thomas. Mr. Barker said this petition was the beginning of a movement to abolish county agricultural agricul-tural agents, who work under a co-operative contract between tin United States department of agriculture, agri-culture, the Utah Agricultural college col-lege and the respective counties. |
