Show Open House ception To Honor Couple Mr. and Mrs. James Straw, long-time residents of this city, will observe their sixtieth wedding anniversary on Thursday, January Janu-ary 27th, by holding Open House to their many friends and relatives rela-tives from 2 to 5 p. m., at their home at 611 North Main street. They were married January 27, 1884, at Provo, and have lived in their present home nearly 55 years. Mr. Straw was born in Springville Spring-ville on January 22, 1863, a son of James and Hannah Hill Straw, early Utah pioneers. He has lived here his entire life. For nearly 25 years, he engaged in railroad construction, con-struction, doing considerable subcontracting sub-contracting in this and surrounding surround-ing states. Later he was stationary sta-tionary engineer for the Union Pacific railroad company, retiring retir-ing in 1933 at the age of 70 years. He is an active member of the church, was at one time in the presidency of the Third Ward Elders El-ders Quorum and at present holds th position of high priest. Mrs. Sarah Whitehead Straw, a daughter of James and Fannie Boyden Whitehead, was born in Salt Lake City on December 16, 1862. She came to Springville in 1876, and has lived here since. She is a charter member of both Springville camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers, and the Service Star Legion, of which organization organiza-tion she is a former president. She is an active member of the church, having been engaged for a number num-ber of years as a Relief Society teacher. Four of the couple's eight sons and daughters are living: Mrs. Hilda Kaufman of Provo; Mrs. Muriel Parks and Mrs. Mabel George of Los Angeles, Cal., and Leight H. Straw of Ogden; also four grandchildren and one greatgrandchild. great-grandchild. Most of the couple's children and a number of the grandchildren grandchild-ren expect to attend the wedding party. |
