Show : WOMAN OF 90 ; CELEBRATES i ANNIVERSARY ! ! j Mrs. Elizabeth Giles second okl-est okl-est i:idy of Springville, and one of the oldest in the county, celebrated her nintieth birthday anniversai y Monday with a social given by a nii-.iiher of her children and friendd at hc home of a daughter, Mrs. I:it tie Blackett. In attendance were Francis Pei.-(yton, Pei.-(yton, Louisa Bulkley, Mary Giles, prnma Giles, Mis. Albert Giles, Zcl-n-,a Beardall. Maud Giles, Dorothy Wheeler, Sarah Lemons, Mary Zy-b:isl;ie. Zy-b:isl;ie. Ssther Condie, Mary Wheeler, Maud Peterson, Ella Pet-i-1-.un, Elsie Condie, Grace Averett, Ii a Patrick, Agnes McKee. Mrs- Giles was born at Preston, Caiulver, England, a daughter of .Mi. and Mrs. John Thorn. She was left a widow at the age of eighteen vkiis after being married to Thorn a Love for nine months. Later slv-joined slv-joined the L. D. S. church and with her second husband George Giles, came to Utah arriving in Spring-vine Spring-vine September 28, 1S68. Mrs. Giles vividly recalls the luulships of the journey. Sailing on the "Constitution" the last sailing sail-ing vessel to carry passengers, the company included four hundred ami fifty saints. They were on the water six weeks. Another six weeks was spent crossing the plains by ox teams. In her earlier days, Mrs. Giles served as' stake Relief society see retary, ward Relief society secre-taiy, secre-taiy, and Sunday school teacher. She is the mother of twelve children; chil-dren; has raised six children of her husbands by a former marriage, ami also two grandchildren. She has 60 grandchildren, 79 greatgrandchildren great-grandchildren and 41 great-greatgrandchildren. Though her health has failed during the past several years, Mrs. Giles takes a keen interest in family fam-ily and church activities. |
