Show i LETTER TELLS HOW SOLDIER DIED V-E DAY The question on the manner in which Pf c. Jack B. Blackett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Blackett of Maywood, Calif., formerly of this city, met death on V-E Day in Germany, was cleared up this week with receipt of a letter from his commanding officer. His parents had received a letter let-ter from him dated on V-E Day on the day he was reported killed, and his letter indicated lie was well. The colonel's letter to his mother stated, in part, that Pfc. Blackett was killed at about 5:00 p. m., on May 8, V-E Day, in the town of Magdesburg, Germany, when a soldier of the company was cleaning a German pistol, and during the course of the cleaning, the weapon accidentally discharged, discharg-ed, one bullet striking Pfc. Blackett Black-ett in the head. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a First Aid station. In the letter, the Colonel also extended his sympathy and that of the company and near friends of Pfc. Blackett. |
