Show LADIES LITERARY CLUB HAS INTERESTING PROGRAM An interesting program on music mus-ic of South America featured the meeting of the Ladies Literary club last Tursday evening, when Rea Straw was hostess. Mrs. F. C. Packard was in charge of the program and gave a "fine paper emphasizing especially the advanced state of music in gen era! in South America, especially in Brazil. She told of the elaborate elabo-rate and expensive opera houses in the far southern countries and of how many of the art and music projects were sponsored by the government. In connection with the paper, Mrs. Packard sang two solos by composers com-posers from the south, and Mrs. Catherine D. Wills gave two numbers num-bers composed by South American musicians; Mrs. Oliver H. Dalton and Mrs. E. S. Groesbeck gave vo- cal numbers of South American origin. or-igin. Mrs. Mary Bird was .accompanist .accom-panist for the program numbers and also rendered two piano num-to num-to illustrate the music of the south. In conclusion, several recordings re-cordings were played. At the beginning of the program, pro-gram, the hostess served a tasty lunch to twenty club members and two guests. |
