Show NEBO BOARD BLASTS FOOTBALL HOPES Recent Action Gives Death Warrant To Pigskin Sport In Half Of Region 3 Superintendent Owen L. Barnett announced that the Nebo school district would not participate in the coming football sport this year. The school board's action followed the recent decision of Region 1 that schools of that sector would not participate in the state-wide football title race. (However, the schools are playing among them-1 selves in that district.) With this change, Utah county's 1942 high school football set-up will be altered. Schools in the Alpine Al-pine division of Region 3, including includ-ing Provo, Lincoln, Pleasant Grove, American Fork and Lehi, will play football, as far as is known to date. The discontinuing of football for this year here was probably due to the reported farm labor shortage. However, other schools in farming districts have not as yet announced their discontinuance of the sport, and many local sport fans are wondering ust why half of Region 3 should drop the sport, while the remaining schools in the state carry car-ry on. The popular grid sport is in keeping with the physical fitness fit-ness program inaugurated by the President of the United States to keep American youth physically prepared. The sport is being played play-ed on a larger and more extensive scale this year than ever before if indications from army camps, professional pro-fessional teams, and college outlooks, out-looks, form any criteria. |
