Show LEON BLACKETT SERVICES HELD The Fourth ward chapel was crowded to capacity Sunday at funeral services conducted for Leon Blackctt who died Thursday following a long illness. A. G. Thorn of the ward bishopric was in charge. The speakers each of whom paid splendid tribute to the character of Leon were: Hilton Robertson of the stake presidency, Paul Thorn and Bishop S. L. Mendenhall of the Fourth ward. Music was given by Mrs. Inez Parker and Miss Helen Palfreyman Palfrey-man who sang a duet; Miss Palfreyman Pal-freyman gave a vocal solo; Mrs. Hannah Packard of Provo a vocal solo and Gilbert Y. Johnson of Spanish Fork a vocal solo. The, invocation was offered by A. W; Harmer of the stake presidency presi-dency and the benediction by Leo Robertson of the ward bishopric. Bishop A. G. Peterson of the Third ward dedicated the gruvcat the city cemetery. Leon was born in Springville August 1, 1904, a son of liattle Giles and the late Milan Blackett. He received his education In the grade schools and the Tiigh school of this community. He took an iic- tive part in the priesthood quorum work of the First ward and by his cheery and considerate disposition dis-position won the respect and devotion de-votion of all with whom, he as- , sociated. He was an active member mem-ber of the local sportsmen associa- ' Lion. Prior to his first illness in 1930, he worked with the Skaggs Safeway Safe-way stores and was in line for a promotion to managership when he was forced to resign on account of ill health. He has been confined con-fined to his bed at intervals since. Besides his mother he leaves a sister, Mrs. Alton Packard of Rock Springs, Wyo., and a brother Fred of this city. |
