Show Neil Hanks named outstanding athlete; Patten wins cage trophy Phillip Bird, Kit Christofferson, Mrs. Sylvia Williams, Pep Club. Neil Hanks was named as Springville High School's most outstanding athlete and Rick Patten was presented with the first annual John Gustin Memorial Mem-orial basketball trophy at the annual SHS athletic banquet held Thursday night. Athletic awards were presented pre-sented in each of the respective respec-tive sports at the event which featured BYU assistant coach, Pete Witbeck, as speaker. Master Mas-ter of ceremonies was Neil Hanks, athletic club president. Othet speakers were Blair Packard, athletic club; Jane Miner, pep club; musical number, num-ber, Juline Van Wagoner accompanied ac-companied by Shauna Mason; invocation, Richard Hjorth. Mrs. John Gustin made the memorial trophy award in honor hon-or of her husband, who was an all-state basketball player on the state championship team at the high school. Awards presented Ray Newbury received the outstanding too tball player award; Rick Patten, basketball player and recipient of the John Gustin Memorial Basketball Basket-ball Award; Blair Packard, o u tstanding wrestler; Neil Hanks, outstanding track; Stuart Stu-art Hamilton, baseball. Football awards: Neil Hanks, team captain; Ray Newbury, most outstanding; Reid Hjorth, most inspirational; Floyd Miner, Mi-ner, most improved player. Basketball: Neil Hanks, captain; cap-tain; Rick Patten, most valuable valu-able player; Ben Gardner, best rebounder; Kelly Clements, most improved. Wrestling: Blair Packard, most outstanding; Steven Bartholomew, Bar-tholomew, most improved; Ray Newbury, most inspirational. Track: Ken Hulce, team captain; cap-tain; Duane Paxton, most outstanding; out-standing; Richard Hjorth, most inspirational. Baseball. Stuart Hamilton, most outstanding; Kelly Clements, Cle-ments, highest batting average; Lynn Allan, personal trophy by Coach Wade Bender. The team won the Region IV southern division di-vision title. Tennis: Steven Nance, most outstanding. Golf: Ron Hitchcock, most outstanding. Athletic club officers include, Neil Hanks, president; Ken Hulce, vice president; Philip Marshall, secretary-treasurer; Tony Child, reporter. Pep Club officers were Dusty Collings, president; Jan Niel-son, Niel-son, vice president; Jane Miner, Mi-ner, secretary-treasurer; Sandra San-dra Wiley, historian-reporter; Kanc'is Holley, drill mistriss.
