Show LARGE STILL CONFISATED BYSHERIFF John Musta Fails in Attempt to Evade Officers and Is Jailed. The eagle eyes of Deputies George Davis and S. A. Willis of the sheriff's forces while looking for stolen automobile tires in the vicinity west of Orem Monday led to the discovery and confiscation of one of the largest and most cleverly arranged stills taken by the sheriff's office this year, according ac-cording to Sheriff J. D. Boyd. There being no tires in evidence on the particular premises of John Sorensen, said to be leased to a Greek John Musta for $500 Davis and Willis noticed two small stove pipes protruding about four inches above the ground. Tires were forgotten for-gotten and the pair immediately reported re-ported to Sheriff Boyd for orders and reinforcements. Sheriff Boyd accompanied the two deputies and when they returned to the promises prom-ises Musta "ran for his life' across the fields towards the hike. Entrance was forced into the hidden collar which was fully HO feet square on the inside. Twenty gallons of whiskey was found in the cellar together with twenty-seven twenty-seven 50-gallon barrels of mash. The burners and coils were said to be the finest yet discovered by the officers. Evidently an attempt had been made to dismantle the still after the tw-o deputies had left as the worm "was disconnected from the tanks when Sheriff Boyd arrived. The whiskey and burners were taken to the sheriff's office as evidence. The ttill and mash were confiscated. John Musta plead "not guilty" to a charge of illegal manufacture and possession of liquor before Judge J. B. Tucker in the city court Tuesday Tues-day morning and was released on a $500 bond pending his trial. |
