These materials are extensively used in modern upholstery, and though they are commonly' seen and used, they are frequently confused or unidentified. ' Frieze is a term applied to velvets, linen, wool or other yarns which show a looped or uncut pile. This surface is hard-wcannp; in" the Mohair and linen types, but the looped pile, especially in the cheaper material?, may snag if heavy, sharp objects are .dragged over it. Krocatelle is similar to a damask weave, though much heavier. It has a linen filling which gives it an embossed or raised effect. Reverse cushions on living room sets afe frequently covered with a brocatelle. ' Moquetle is a plush material with a short pile used for furniture coverings. In this material the pile is usually uncut. There are two kinds of Needlepoint known as Petit Point and Oros Point. These names are given to the embroidery in the old-fashioned cross stitch work done on net. In Petit point, the stitches number more than 14 to the linen! inch and Cros Point when numbering less. . ...Toile de Jouy patterns are usually printed on linen or chintz, and present peasant or pastnrial scenes.' The designs were introduced by Phillip Okerhampf, who opened a workshop in the town of Jouy, France, during the reign of Louis XVI. The designs are still used on lighter fabrics and wallpaper.
