They held an assembly and taught the students about the importance of many things while driving, such as always wearing a seatbelt and staying alert. They taught that the most common way teens get distracted is from texting while driving. Reggie Shaw came to speak to the students as part of the program and he told them the dangers of texting while driving, because he had a firsthand experience and learned the hard way. The students learned a lot from the program and it made a big impact on them. Karianne Nelson, a senior at Spanish Fork High School said, "It scared me. I will definitely never text while driving again!" The students enjoyed having them come and made them want to be safer on the road. "Get Smart about Credit" is a national wide program set out by the American Bankers Association to help raise awareness about the responsible use of credit so teens and young adults can learn how to use credit correctly. Camilla Simonsen and Mike Mendenhall of Central Bank spoke to Mrs. Le Bras and Mrs. Anderson's classes at Landmark High School about how useful credit can be with good decisions. They used case studies to show how little decisions can influence a lifetime. "There are four C's we look for at Central Bank," Simonsen said. "They are character, collateral, capacity and credit." The students learned about these four C's along with the difference between needs and wants and income verses spending. Classes like this are being taught all over Utah County in hopes to give guidance on how to budget, save and manage money responsibly.
