My mother loved the Peace rose and she had several in her yard. Since I moved here, I had to take some of them out. The grass had grown up in the roses so bad that it was impossible to pull them out and besides that, they were over 50 years old and had gotten scraggly and looking bad. I had a couple of grandsons who pulled them out for me this summer. I do have two bushes left and I noticed the other day that there was one rose that had bloomed and so I cut it and brought it in my house. My daughter has a big Peace rose bush over to her place and it still has about 10 roses on it. It is situated on the southwest corner of her house and' it must like that location because it is beautiful. The Ash tree in my yard has lost almost every leaf. This is an interesting tree and we watch it every fall. It seems to be a great barometer of the Fall season. The leaves will be a bright green and within only a few days, the leaves turn a yellowishgreen, then a bright yellow and it will lose all of it's leaves in only a few days. Yesterday when we had a wind come up the leaves were falling just like sndwflakes. The kids had fun watching them flutter to the ground. The canning kitchen is finally closed! I have put away all the big pots, pans, steamers, measuring spoons and cups, the sealing lids, strainers, knives, and food processor for another year. It was a fruitful season. I didn't do much for myself, but I was glad to help my daughters who were very diligent about getting a variety of fruits, vegetables and jams in their storage. I remember my mother helping me with my canning and also my Grandma Roach. When we moved into our new home, which we built across the road from her home, I don't know who was more excited, me or her, about my having a fruit cupboard with lots of shelves. When we lived in an old home I kept my fruit in we worked. I learned from the upstairs.
