Musician in town Jeril Bills STAFF WRITER Aspiring musician and Spanish Fork resident Jake Henry, age' 16, recently released his first album, "Summ3r Day" to online retailers such as iTunes and Amazon.com on June 30, 2009. He describes his style as "an instrumental blend of both electronic and classical." Henry began playing music in fourth grade, when he learned to play piano. He began composing in the summer of 2007, when he began work on the album's title track. Up until last year, music composition was just a casual hobby for the young pianist. As he shared his songs with others, however, he realized that they always seemed to like them. He decided to start posting music on the Internet, and began looking for a means to spread it, since it's difficult for a beginning artist as young as he is to sign with a record label. After exploring a few options, Henry opted with reverbnation.com, a website that markets for musicians online. Local scout collects old cell phones Before you throwaway your old cell phones, there is an easier way to dispose of them. Bring them to Macey's in Spanish Fork on Saturday Aug. 22 and you can help keep the environment clean. Local scout, Kevin Johnson, from Troop 1534, in Spanish Fork, will be collecting unwanted cell phones as part of his Eagle Scout project from 9 a.m.-l p.m. With cell phone users getting new, more upgraded cell phones nearly every year, what happens to the old ones? Most of the time they get thrown into dumps and landfills. But recent studies by the EPA have shown that this spreads pollution to our environment. Old cell phones leach lead and other substances into the environment. As time goes by, this becomes more and more a problem.- Quality'Photography , '^••'•••' j j ^•EngagementPictures"'•'***** 9BridalPh( '^Si. | hearthstone Manor Amenities -|?5#^j | • Assisted Living Level One and Two i I • Kitchenettes : ^:^^^^--:i;^i^:^%.^y<\ >tos..v^UJg i**?* weddings!Receptions hr-v • 7VOM> selling photograpHf and artwork ( Chad Carter-801-794-2122 iig; WWW.CARTSPHOTO.COM But it's easy for you to lend a helping hand if you bring your old cell phones to Macey's in Spanish Fork on Aug. 22, your phones will get put to good use. Phones collected will be recycled or refurbished and sent to those who can use them. This is a safe and easy way to dispose of your cell phones. You'll be doing the environment a favor. You'll also be helping a scout in his Eagle rank project. If you'd like to do your part, but can't come by Macey's on the collection date, Johnson • says that phones can be taken by most cell phone retail stores, where they will gladly be recycled. In March of this year, Henry decided to record an album. Since Henry is the only musician on the recordings, he had to go through the time-consuming process of recording several tracks for each song. After about two months of hard work, Henry submitted the completed album to ReverbNation in May, and it was officially released in June. The album is available on iTunes for $9.99 and on amazon.com for $8.99, and can also be found on the sites of other online retailers. In addition to electronic music, Henry also enjoys playing acoustic piano. He's interested in performing live on piano, and is trying out this year for the Maple Mountain High School jazz band. Henry said that he would like to make music a career, if possible. "It's kind of my dream job, basically," he said. I iram m IP m \ & Loafer Canyon A bedroom home.
