ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" partnered with Ford in a promotion that provided one deserving family in each of the 50 states a new Ford Edge. The Oakesons were the Utah recipient of the promotion. They were nominated by Nephi resident Christine Hosie. In her essay about the Oakeson family, Hosie wrote, "Years ago we moved to Nephi to help a son get away from gang influence. We could not have done this without the help of Reed." Oakeson, a Nephi building subcontractor, helped the Hosie family renovate and remodel their dilapidated home. "He really didn't know us too well at the time. His wife, Janet, was my friend, and she got him to help us in our desperate situation. He did it all willingly, without pay," wrote Hosie. "We, of course, think he's great. He continues to do many acts of service where he can. He's helped many others in the same way." And for his selfless efforts, Oakeson was chosen to receive a sporty new Ford Edge SEL, complete with dual moon roof. "I was apprehensive at first," Oakeson said. "It was hard to believe. But it will be very nice." Taming to Smith Auto owner, Glenda Lyman, he said, "This car is beautiful. Thank you so much."
