If you read my column regularly, you might remember that about a year ago I gave you a headsup about books that had upcoming movies. Well, all of those films have either now been released, or will hit the big screenbefore the end of summer, so I decided it was time to sort through the latest books that are being made into movies. Targeting teen readers continues to be a focus for film makers it seems. Coming soon are adaptations of: The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper, His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman and cartoon favorite Alvin and the Chipmunks. Next year audiences will enjoy The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian by C. L Lewis, The Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black, Dr. Seuss's Horton Hears a Who, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, City of Ember by Jeannette DuPrau, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J. K. Rowling and The Tale Of Despereaux by Courtesy photo TABLES TURNED: While young Justin was often in tears, it was Jazlyn crying in the photo above. Good or days had been brought there. Too many times, we felt they were too beautiful to use and were put away in a linen closet just to admire and say, "Someday I'll use these." Dish towels were embroidered with whimsical patterns and almost always consisted of seven towels, one for each day of the week. Of course, there were always the quilts. Every girl had to have "a few" quilts in her trousseau. Mothers pieced quilts early so she would be ready, when her daughter found the lucky fellow. Well, now I that was working and had a paycheck of my very own, I would go into DTR's and look and look. The first thing I bought when I worked at the bank was a sewing machine. The second thing was a slide camera and projector (which I still have) and then the third thing I wanted was a nice set of china and some Colton Anderson, son of Neil and Kathryn Anderson of Lake Shore, and grandson of Clair and Lottie Anderson of Benjamin, is working on his Eagle Scout project. And so I still have them, but I'm afraid that they haven't been used very much. After we were married and children started joining the family, we didn't use the china. We used what a lot of other couples with young children used and that was the old Melmac dinnerware. It was almost indestructible. Kids could drop itfromthe tray on the high chair and it would survive. Then came the Corelle ware, which is what I use now. So, my pretty china still sits in the china cupboard. Oh, I have used it a few times, but not all that often. The same with my crystal. It is beautiful and looks good in the cupboard. It will be a nice inheritance for our children. Parting thought for the week: Being happy doesn't mean every things perfect. It means you decide to see beyond the imperfections.
