IAU invites community to enjoy borrablot 2010 Porrablot (pronounced Thorrablot) is an ancient Viking midwinter tradition of feasting on traditional foods like shark, dried fish and sheep. Around the country of Iceland, the people celebrate these old traditions, eating, drinking and singing, not much unlike what the Vikings did back in the day. Join us and live like a Viking once a year with the Icelandic Association of Utah's celebration of Thorrablot. Thorrabl6t 2010 will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010, located in the Veterans Memorial Building (400 north Main Street) in Spanish Fork. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for visiting and viewing displays. Viking Feast is catering the buffet. The evening will formally start at 6:30 p.m. Viking Feast will begin serving shortly after 6:30 p.m. Food being served includes shredded lamb, breaded haddock, sweetened rutabagas, pickled red cabbage, glazed potatoes, rolls, and Scandinavian cake (marzipan). For adults, prepaid tickets (paid by February 19) are $15.00. At-the-door tickets are $18.00. For children ages 11 and younger, prepaid tick- ets are $4.00. At-the-door tickets are $5.00. The children's menu is lasagna and hot dogs. A visitor can expect to view the honorees displays and Puffin bird display, purchase items at the bookstore, enjoy a buffet of food that modern Icelanders typically eat (no traditional food this year), recognize two honorees, hear the Barnakor (children's choir) sing three songs in Icelandic, participate in auctioning a quilt, for the education fund, sing five folk songs in Icelandic, have door prizes and say goda nott (good night). As he was photographing the impressive structures, a deer happened to join him in his work. Kiwanis Courtesy photo VALENTINES: The Mark and Carol Tanner family recently entertained Kiwanis members and guests at a special Valentine's program. Mark, Carol, Rebecca, Katie, Jonathon, and Anna Tanner took turns singing, playing the piano, playing the guitar or playing the violin. Special love songs that they performed included "You are my sunshine", "Can't help falling in love with you", "L.O.V.E.", "A bicycle built for two", and "Let me call you sweetheart". All ladies attending received a special Valentines package provided by NUSKIN. Special perfumes, lotions and soaps were included in each package. Chocolates were given to all in attendance. Doug Lund conducted the meeting. Mike McKell led the pledge and Gordon Orr gave the prayer.
