Show Sentinel A10 • WEDNESDAY, MARCH 24, 2010 Guardian of Your Community News SF Softball TRADITION: Prior to the Layton game, Friday, March 12, 2010, Don Andrews, SFHS softball coach, gave Kristi Miller a plaque thanking her for helping start the SF softball tradition. Kristi is the head coach at Layton. Kristi is one reason, along with Don and others, why the SF softball program is what it is today. She was a feared and fearless competitor, willing herself and her teammates to victory. She also played volleyball and basketball for SFHS and was named All State as well as Academic All State her senior year. Players may register now through the end of March. Teams will be divided the March 29, 2010 and games will begin the second week of April. Soccer will be offered by grade for boys and girls K-8th grade. Teams will play six-on-six in most leagues. More information at www.salemcity.org. 7/8th grade teams will play six-on-six on gender-specific teams. Any ninth-graders interested in playing should confact the recreation office 4231035. Little Kickers Soccer This is soccer for 4and 5-year-old boys and girls that prepares them for organized youth soccer in a fun and non-threatening environment. Recreation coordinators teach and work drills with child and parent that assists the grown and development of beginning soccer players. This four-week program will beginning April 15, 2010 and run to May 11, 2010. Sessions will be held twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Registration is $5 and includes a Little Kickers t-shirt. Early registration deadline is April 5, 2010. Youth Baseball and Softball Youth Baseball and Softball for boys and girls grades 3-12. Registration: March 22-23, 2010 8 a.m.-6 p.m. at the Recreation Office. Leagues are divided by gender and age group. After teams have been drafted, registration will be accepted on a space availability basis. Boys and girls grades 3-8 will play the majority of their games Tuesday-Thursday evenings. Players that are returning to the same league and team from last year do not need to attend tryouts. All boys will be required to wear white baseball pants in city league Adult Coed Softball Teams may now sign up for spring softball. Salem will offer two adult coed softball division on Wednesday evenings. Both leagues will.play an 8-week 12-game schedule, including some doubleheaders. Cost is $365 per team if paid by April 5, 2010. League play will begin with practice games on April 21,2010 and opening night on April 28,2010. A $5 non-resident fees will apply to non-Salem residents. Salem Hunter Safety Salem Parks and Recreation is now taking registration for our final hunter safety program of the season. The class will be a four-evening commitment with a Saturday shooting range. Cost is $10 to sign up; spots are limited to 30 participants. Class dates are April 12,13, 15 and 16, 2010. Participants must attend all class in order to pass this course. Shooting range will be Saturday, April 17,2010. All participants will need to purchase a hunter safety small game voucher as well^For more information please call the recreation office, 801-4231035. Courtesy photo READY TO PLAY: The Spanish Fork Warriors lacrosse team is looking forward to a great season. SF Lacrosse team growing The Spanish Fork Warriors Lacrosse team beat Murray this week with a 9-7 win. They competed in the Beet Digger Tournament this weekend with four games scheduled and return to play on the home field March 25. They will also play at home on April 20 and 27, 2010. The 38 players on the Warriors roster look forward to a great season. Members of the team come from Spanish Fork, Springville, Mapleton, Salem and Payson. Their head coach, Jesse Thorpe, is assisted by three others this year, Tom James, Rob Maddox and Josh Thacker. Members of the team are Karac Ashcraft, Matt Baer, Algee Baxter, Josh Bladh, Tyler Boyack, Pete Bradford, Clint Call, Chance Carter, Zac Christianson, Garret! Cloud, Freddie Davis, Nathan Francis, Gavin Gregory, Tyson Gee, Cole Halladay, Logan Jacobs, Cecil Jacobson, Casey James, Dallin Kimber, Kaden Kuhni, Dalton Loveless, Jake Merrill, Michael Nixon, Parker Oates, Kalin Olson, Tanner Porter, Timothy Rogers, Joshua Romanek, Taylor Rowley, Nate Shumway, Cameron Strachan, Scott Sutherland, Tyler Swenson,Zack Swenson, David Takasaki, Derek Tidwell and Justin Ward. Lacrosse is the fastestgrowing sport among boys and girls today. They now have beginning teams for grades 1-8, as well as JV and varsity teams throughout Utah. If your child is interested in lacrosse, you can register through April 9 for the spring league. Those from the Springville/ Mapleton area should contact Tom James, 801-3190059. K-2nd Grade Registration Spanish Fork Parks and Recreation is now taking registrations for T-ball, machine pitch and coach pitch. Kids must be in at least kindergarten to play. Kindergarten boys and girls will play T-ball. 2nd-grade boys play machine-pitch and 2nd-grade girls will play coach-pitch, lst-grader may choose either T-ball or machine-pitch (boys) or coach-pitch (girls). Early registration ends April 1, 2010; regular registration goes April 2-12,2010. League games will be played weekdays, beginning the latter part of May and running through the end of June. You can register online at reconline.spanishfork.org or in the Parks and Recreation Office Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Salem Urban Fishing The Youth Fishing Program is open to youth grades 3-6. This program is a joint venture between Salem Recreation and the Division of Wildlife Resource. The program focuses on educating youth about fishing and aquatic resources. The first class will be held April 7, 2010 at the downtown ball park. All other classes will be held at Salem Pond. Each participant should provide their own pole. This is a sixweek program. All participants will receive a Salem Fishing Club t-shirt. |
