Queen Elisa Lewis is from West Mountain, the daughter of Kelly and Jeanie Lewis; first attendant is Lacey Godfrey from Benjamin, the daughter of Richard and Christine Godfrey; and second attendant is Chassidy Arnold from Heber. Many of the girls trying out for rodeo queen have been around horses their entire lives. It takes a long time and hard work to perfect horsemanship skills. "For me, I have been riding horses before I could walk. Scholarship recipients were Paige Seat, Dominic Bills, Kensie Carlson, Lacey Godfrey, Danielle Jones, Nicollette Dedrickson, Thomas Clark, Jeffrey Compton, Kaydee O'Brien, Jacqueline Beltran, Jocelyn Rosas, Britenie Mortensen, Robert Clauson, Caitlin Boden, Matthew Lundell, Natalie Rogers, Grady Harding, Keirston Dudley and GarrickLiddiard. Miss Utah 2008 Kayla Barclay spoke to the scholarship recipients about following their dreams, even when the going gets rough. She shared experiences both in failure and in success that have helped her learn and grow. "Even if you don't reach [your goal], you're still a better person because you try," she said. Barclay stressed the importance of working to achieve goals. ' ii1 'To follow your dreams, it takes taking the initiative to do something," she said. As Miss Utah, Barclay has had the opportunity to promote her platform, internet and cell phone safety, to schools across the state. That led to her involvement in a national organization, wiredsafety.org. She traveled with them to Washington, D.C. Wednesday, May 13 to address the Senate Commerce Committee about various internet crimes. Following her speech, Barclay performed the piano solo she competed with at the Miss America pageant, "Scherzo in B-flat major" by Chopin.
