Loafer Elementary School know how to serve and they are being put to the challenge. The student council at Mt. Loafer have challenged the students to do a service project at home to help earn at least $1000.00 for the Landon Clark Hughes Library at their school. The Hughes Family from Elk Ridge started the library several years ago in memory of their little boy who passed away. The family has generously made continued contributions to keep the library stocked with great books, comfortable couches and chairs for the boys and girls to read on, and a big rug for the students to use. The Hughes family also announced that they would match any amount that the students earned. The student council has also helped to boost the cause by promising to perform interesting tasks when certain goals are met. For example, one council member will eat a gold fish, another will eat raw eggs and one more will dye his hair purple. Best of all, if the students reach the goal of earning $1000.00, our students get to dress Principal Rudd any way they want. We appreciate the Hughes Family and want to thank them for making our library such a special place for students to read. We also appreciate the students at Mt. Loafer and know they can meet this challenge! Pictured are the Hughes family with the Mt. Loafer Student Council. Representatives spoke with the students about pioneer history, and brought along some of the things used by the pioneers. The fourth grade learned to dance the Virginia Reel, and were able to try out a few games that pioneers used to play. It was an exciting slice of history. Many thanks from all of our students! Auto 100TH DAY: We've been in school for over 100 days at Mt. Loafer Elementary School in Salem! The first grade .classes had celebrations for 100th day. They made cookies, ate 100 pieces of cereal, made posters with 100 items, and brought 100 items from home and put them into groups of 10. They took their 100 cookies and divided them among 20 children. Can you figure out how many each child got? Happy 100th day! Only 80 more days to go! By Summer Lytle, Kenzie Martin and Sierra McGhie. The character trait for January was 'Honesty'. When teachers saw their students exhibiting this particular trait or other positive traits, they gave them a citizenship card. At the end of the month, a student from each class was selected as a 'Canyon Champ'. The following students were selected as Canyon Champs, great citizens, for January.
