The Spanish Fork soccer team hosted Timpanogos on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. The soccer field had to be cleared of snow for the game to take place. The T-wolves seemed to warm up before the Dons, taking a 2-0 lead. Riley Dinehart, above, scored in the second half, to bring the Dons within one, but Timpanogos scored again to get the 3-1 victory. Dons get shut-outs: From BASEBALL • B l and Damon Ward reaching base. Hanks was able to hit a single up the middle to give the. Dons their first run of the game. Brock Duke and Michael Hayes followed with RBTs of their own. This would be all Hanks needed as he shut the Lions out with five innings of fastballs and curves that the Lions could not touch. Hanks struck out 11 hitters while walking only one. Life is easy for a defense when your pitcher strikes out at least two per inning. Fellow senior Devin Nelson came in for the final two innings and was just as hard on Payson. Nelson struck out three and allowed only one hit. The" Dons continued their scoring in the third when Hanks got on after he was hit by a pitch. In the fourth, Kirt Daley led things off with a double and scored when Devin Nelson followed him with a single. Nelson scored on another RBI single from Tyler Hanks. The final two runs came in the sixth when Shaun Peterson and Damon Ward hit back to back triples. Ward scored on an RBI single from Brock Duke. Spanish Fork 6 Taylorsville 0 (at Taylorsville) Brock Duke followed Tyler Hanks' lead from the day before and ended this game in the first inning as well. Duke gave himself all the run support he would need in the top of the first when he hit an RBI single to score Kirt Daley who had gotten on base with a walk. Duke was dominating on the hill as he struck out nine in six innings of work. With a mid-80s fastball that would sometimes touch 90, accompanied by an off-speed breaking ball, he made it impossible for Taylorsville to score a run. The final inning was tossed by Adam Duke. Adam did not allow a hit and struck out one. The Dons added two more runs in the fourth when Michael Hayes got on base with a walk. Hayes advanced on a Kade Christensen single and scored on an RBI single from Selby Brummett. Christensen scored on a fielder's choice hit by Shaun Peterson. Gentry Mitchell led the sixth inning off with a single and promptly stole second base. Mitchell scored on a ball hit by Michael Hayes that was misplayed by Taylorsville. Hayes later scored on anotherTaylorsville error. The final run of the game came when Shaun Peterson hit his second triple in as many days. Peterson crossed the plate when Kirt Daley hit a sacrifice fly. , The Spanish Fork boys' tennis team faced off against Lone Peak April 1,2008 and Lehi April 3. It was a tough week for Spanish Fork, losing to Lone Peak 1-4 and Lehi 2-3. "When you play Lone Peak you just want to get better. They haven't lost during region play in four years," said Coach Scott Dunn. The second doubles team of Trevor West and Josh Vidmar captured the only win against Lone Peak. It was a difficult match, in which they were able to win in two tie-breakers, 7-6 7-6. "Second doubles played very well. The pressure was on, but they were still able to win the match in two tiebreakers against last year's state champion," said Dunn. The intense match lasted over two hours. "The best part of the match was hitting a lob over Lone Peak's head to win the first set," said Trevor West. First doubles, Dan Soffe and Colton Sermersheim, lost in a difficult match 6-1 4—6 2-6. The single players, Paul Jamsa, Bobby Clausen and Taylor Christensen, each lost to the hard-hitting Knights. . In the match versus Lehi, Spanish Fork was led by the doubles, teams. The Spanish Fork doubles teams are playing well and look good heading deeper into region play. "I hope to take region and then state," said Josh Vidmar.
