Well, REC. DIVISION this spring the girls will debut LOSSES I in the first ever SFHS ladies WINS TEAM 4 Pinnacle 1 1 golf team. Nelson has been a math teacher for a total of nine years. He started out at the junior high for two years and has spent the last seven on the bottom half of SCORING LEADERS town. During fall sports, he has been an assistant coach for the boys' golf team. In the winter, he has been busy coaching the sophomore boys' hoops squad (10 years) but made the transition to girls' basketball not long ago. In the spring, he coached track andfieldbut this year he will embark on a new journey as a head coach. "It's pretty exciting," said Nelson. "It's brand new for a lot of the girls. A lot of them really haven't had much experience so it will be something new and fun to get started. We think we can start it off right and make it positive and it will just build on itself as we get better and better." Last August, Coach Nelson was busy coaching the junior varsity golfers when it was announced that SF would start up a girls' golf team. Lady Dons stay perfect with 8-3 victory over Lehi Brent Thurgood STAFF WRITER The Spanish Fork Lady Dons moved to 2-0 in region with a 8-3 victory over the Lehi Pioneers. The game, originally scheduled to be played at Spanish Fork, was moved to Lehi due to the three inches of snow covering Spanish Fork's field. Lehi starter Ariel Zimmerman held the Dons scoreless for three innings. In fact, the Lehi pitcher set the entire Lady Don lineup down in order the first time through, something that no pitcher has been able to do all season. Spanish Fork starter Deven Baum was equally tough as she allowed only one base hit in the first three innings, holding the Pioneers scoreless. The second time through the lineup, however, the Lady Dons turned the tables on Zimmerman. Lady Don lead off hitter Tina Ferguson stepped to Baseball Player Profile the plate. Tina picked up Spanish Fork's first hit andfirstrun as she sent a ball flying over the 200 ft sign in center field, giving the Dons a 1-0 lead. Senior Ashley Chappel followed Ferguson's home run with a double to right center and scored the Dons' second run on a RBI single by Katelyn Elliott. Baum set the Pioneers down in order for the fourth consecutive inning preserving the 2-0 lead. Spanish Fork broke the game open in the top of the fifth. Kylie B ufton reached base on an error by the Lehi second baseman. Freshman Lyndsey Healey hit a sharp single to left which bounced through the left fielder's legs, allowing Bufton to score from first base. The two errors opened the gates for the Lady Dons as they proceeded to score six runs in the inning including back-to-back home runs by Katelyn Elliott and Whitney Holm. Lehi picked up their first runs in the bottom of the sixth on a single and two Spanish Fork errors. Spanish Fork loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but were unable to push any more runs across the plate. Deven Baum pitched all seven innings allowing six hits but only one earned run. Coach Andrews said it was Baum's best outing of the season. Senior Nachelle Stewart helped lead the girls track team to back-to-back victories at the Pineview Invitational and the ASICS Invitational. Nachelle won the 800m at both meets, and participated on the winning relay teams in the 4x100 and 4x400. She finished second behind twin sister, Natalie, in the 200m at Pineview and the 400m at ASICS. Nachelle is the daughter of Lee and Hali Stewart of Spanish Fork.
