In handwritten motions filed Nov. 18, Arguelles asked the Utah Supreme Court to bar furt her appeals on his behalf, fire his lawyer and speed up automatic review of h is death sentence. Arguelles, who was sentenced to death June 20, 1997, for the murders of four Salt Lake County women in 1992, said, "I absolutely do not want m y conviction or sentence challenged or fought in any way." Addam Swapp and John Timothy Singer are serving federal prison terms after their convictions for the January 1988 bombing of a Mormon chapel in Marion, Utah. T he blast triggered a siege in which Swapp and 14 oth er members of a small clan were surrounded in their compound by more than 100 officers.Attorneys argued that the federal government illegally stretched its authority by claiming the Mormon church's involvement in interstate commerce gave jurisdiction t o the FBI. WRIGHT SAYS HIS WIFE KNEW OF PLOT TO KILL JILL ALLEN: Joseph Wright, the confessed middle man in the contract slaying of Jill Allen, testified yesterday that h is wife knew of the alleged murder plot. Wright said his wife, Jenny, also accompa n ied him and admitted hit man George Taylor on fo ur trips to t he Allens' Nort h Salt Lake apartment building while the two men planned the murder. Under a plea agreemen t, Wright will plead gu ilty to two thi rd degree felonies for his role in the alleged plot and likely receive a sentence of eight to 10 years.
