"The message is that the spirit of true giving, as shown by Amahl, can indeed work miracles." Two separate casts will present the opera. The cast for Dec. 5 and 13 performances includes Kara Frost, Sandy (Amahl); Malinda Clove, Enterprise (Mother); Jeff Montoya, Price (King Kaspar); Andy Rasmussen, Taylorsville (King Melchior); Aaron Foster, Mina, Nev. (King Balthazar); and John Joseph McClean, Phoenix, Ariz. (Page). Cast members fo r Dec. 6 and 12 are Anna Hughes, Layton (Amahl); Marlo Madsen, Littleton, Colo. (Mother); Shane Pierce, Clarkdale, Ariz. (King Kaspar); Duane Waihi, Hauula, Hawaii (King Melchiori; Wyett Ihler, Centerville (King Balthazar); and McClean (Page). 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' is slated for Dec. 5-6, 12-13. The opera, which was written by Gian Carlo Menotti, will include music by a 13-piece orchestra conducted by Phillip R. Baldwin, of the SUU music faculty, together with dancers and a chorus. "We have a strong production staff which should help make this an exceptional holiday event," Modesitt said. "I still remember the impact the television premiere of this opera had on me as a child. Menotti has created a powerful musical vision of love and true giving that is probably m ore necessary and vital today than when the opera was first presented:11 |
