Show THE CAMPUS Ski, Snowboard Club slates new activities By VERONICA GARNER JOURNAL STAFF WRITER Snow is on the ground, the ski resorts are opening, but you' re too poor to afford a lift tic ket. Wouldn ' t it be nice to receive a free lift pass to Elk Meadows Ski Resort, just because you paid $6 to go see a movie? "That's the whole point of our activity, " said Troy Blanchard, co-president of the SUU Ski and Snowboard Club. Tomorrow, the club will be hosting a special showing of Warren Miller's Snowriders 2, a ski and snowboarding movie, in the Ballroom at 7:30. "Warren Miller makes incredible ski and board films; they're high energy and have excellent footage," Blanchard said. "Everyone in attendance will receive a free lift pa~. Members of the club will be able to get their shirts at the movie as well. We're really excited for this activity." Blanchard related that the membership of the '97-98 club is the largest-supporting almost 90 members- since it began five years ago. The Ski and Board Club is working closely with the Outdoor Club to plan activities which will include several people. The club is hosting a tubing night at Brianhead Ski Resort on Friday, Dec. 5. The two clubs are also having a midnight snow shoeing activity on Jan. 30 at Brianhead. "We are planning things that just about anyone can participate in, you don't have to be a skier or a boarder to be part of our club," Blanchard said. "We're here to provide an alternative and give a little variety to winter quarter." Students interested in joining the Ski and Board Club can contact Blanchard at 867-1804, or Dan Mullins at 867-9789. Dues are $20, and includes the club T-shirt.
