Expires Jan. 31, 2001 On Tuesday, Jan. 16, Groovacious will begin hosting musical entertainment and interactive "open microphone" sessions two nights a week. In addition to the open mic nights, Groovacious will be hosting various bands throughout the year. Tonight at 7 p.m., 3MTA3 takes the stage playing a style of music that has been compared to bands such as Metallica, Korn , Godsm ack, Limp Bizkit, Papa· Roach and Creed . All are invited to attend the first . appearance by a local band at Groovacious and the first performance of many this year. There is no charge to attend. 3MTA3's first performance was St. George "Battle of the Bands" show, where they took second place . The band now resides in Cedar City. Most recently they played this year's "Cedar City Fall Fest. " The performance of 3MTA3 will help promote their first recorded album . For open mic sessions, local . musicians, singers, poets, writers and players are able to bring their talents to this free form style session to perform amongst their peers. Step-to-the-mic night will be on Tuesdays and Poetry Slam night on Thursdays. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. Each performer has approximately 20 minutes or less· to perform. Performers are to be at Groovacious no later than 6:30 p.m. to be scheduled as a performer that night. Step-to-the-mic night will focus on music, primarily acoustic music, to keep the night flowing smoothly and quickly. However, musicians of all styles and genres are welcomed to perform for 20 minutes or less. This is meant to be a learning experience as well as entertaining . An opportunity for local musicians and singers to come together, network, discuss and help one another. Jam sessions may be a part of these nights. even if you are not scheduled to perform , plan on bringing instruments 9r vocal talent. Poetry Slam will follow the same guidelines regarding time lines as with Step-to the-mic night. Poetry Slam night will focus on the written work. Poets and writers are invited to share works in progress or completed works of their own or they may read their favorite poems by other authors.This night is not just for poetry, but short plays and song lyrics. In addition actors are encouraged to perform scenes they are working on . Both events aim to provide a means for musicians, writers and performers in the Cedar City area to show developing as well as developed skills. Step-to-the-mic night and Poetry Slam will take place on the Groovacious soundstage located at 173 N. 100 W. in Cedar City. For more information about these events call 867-9800.
