Coach said Head with our Im very confident team, Neil Roberts, whose club hosts the St. Francis Bulldogs of New York tonight in the Centrum. The game will be a reunion of sorts for Kelvin Lee, originally from Hempstead, N.Y. It will be a good test for us. Theyre good shooters, Roberts said. Dec. 3 SUSC began an eight game road trip in Flagstaff, Az. by beating the Jacks 80-6Mondays game was no different, other than a few new Bird faces, and a more attack. d In the first meeting between the two teams McDonald was not eligible so did not see any action, and Marcelic did not have a good performance. In Mondays victory, all 12 Thunderbirds scored. We played a lot of people tonight, said Roberts, whose bench outscored the NAU starters down the stretch. SUSC had 30 points in bench production. The Birds shot 49 percent from the field, while limiting the NAU shooters to only 30 percent field goal shooting. The area where weve improved is defense and boards, said Roberts. That was evident especially in the first half as Chris Naulls brought down nine rebounds to set the tempo on the inside. SUSC utilized the full court press at times and played tough man defense limiting the Jacks to only 10 field goals in the first half. The tight defense freed SUSCs fast break offense as 1 1 they capitalized on 22 NAU turnovers, and forced steals. Im really disappointed, said first year NAU Head Coach Pat Rafferty. I think we digressed defensively. We shot the ball as well as we have all year, said Roberts. The Birds are averaging just under 45 percent from the field on the year. They really shot the ball well on us and we just stood and watched them shoot it, said Rafferty. The Thunderbirds continue to struggle from the free throw line, however, hitting just 50 percent, 8 of 16, in 30-poi- nt 0. 6-- three-pointe- 9. rs three-pointer- , 6. i well-rounde- , DaVor Marcehc sinks his third trey of the night in the 30-po- SUSC victory over NAU Monday.
