Show Page 2 The Thunderbird Thursday January 27, 1983 too valuable to be ignored at SUSC Library can be a valuable tool for those seeking learning. We are fortunate to have access to this resource here. It does have its problems mostly mandated by external sources but what we do have can be useful. A number of students have been heard to complain about the lack of updated resources and the limited selection of materials. This problem is not directly the fault of the library, which has had to cope with tremendously burgeoning costs which have outstripped other commodities such as food and clothing by more than three times in inflation. Another complaint students have made concerns the inconvenient weekend hours. These hours have been extended somewhat in response to student requests. If students still feel they need more time, they must voice their discontent so that changes may be made. But, this again will cost more money. Wages for the weekend workers must be found somewhere. Some of the problems with the library lie more on the other side of the fence with the students themselves. Some show disrespect for others and library rules by being overly loud and talkative. This is distracting and annoying to those attempting to study. Disruptive students need to be asked to leave the building, so that those who are there using the library for its stated purpose may do so undisturbed. There also are students who take for granted the services the library offers, making others pay the price for damaged and for materials. Students, too, must realize that a college can truly be little better than A library Panot? Jessica Barton "Since most studying is done on the weekends, library hours should be extended on those days. its library. We wonder if the powers that be in Salt Lake City join that realization. They must understand the great importance of allowing us the financial means necessary to maintain a good library. The major purpose of this institution is to provide knowledge. Only by a cooperative effort of the taxpayers and their representatives, the staff and faculty and the students can this be achieved. Our library is perhaps the prime example of this or lack of it. cooperation ? v in Mike Miller "Sometimes, but Sundays sometimes during the week." it needs to be open longer, and J 4 'LStS 0)e Omnderbird Stuart Riley Yes, most of the time people study during the day and its open during the day."
